The whole active versus passive thing keeps getting brought up. I honestly believe that some of the orthos are using the term differently than others.

From what I have read, the traditional Hanger band is an active band. Do they use the Hanger band at this location?

Sorry - I can't help with a reference for the ortho, but I thought I'd let you know that if it is a traditional Hanger band, they you are probably dealing with an active band.

Need advice in Nashville area

Hello,I'm new to this group and have already learned a lot. Thank you.I met with BJ at Hanger in Nashville and was hoping I could talk with some folks who have been using him for awhile. From what I have read here, the Hanger helmet is an active helmet, but BJ said it was passive. I'm fine with either one as long as they work. I would love to hear some testimonies from anyone who has used him and also see some before and after pictures. My son is almost 7 months old and has mild-mod plagio. You can email me personally if you would prefer at howardfaml at aol dot com.If I don't go with BJ, it will mean driving 8 hours one way to Cran. Tech in Charlotte, NC.Thank you so much,Tina

Hey Tina,I think we might have spoken over the phone the other day.  My son Evan sees BJ.  I spoke with a district manager of Hanger and he said it was active.  He did say that the terms are used interchangeably sometimes.  He said that no band is truly active anymore because the FDA will not allow it.  A truly active band will push in areas and actually mold the head.  The FDA believes this is dangerous so no band is truly active.  I think what people call active now is that it holds securely in the areas that you want to prevent growth and allows space in areas that you want to grow.  A passive band I believe would have a looser fit and may not hold in the areas you want to prevent growth.  I hope this helps.  They are very confusing terms, but that is what I've come to think of it as. Give me a call and let me know how your appt went.
