Helmet woes

Hi all,

I have just joined this group because I am about ready to give up correcting my

son's plagio. He is 6 months old, and we have been using helmets for about 8

weeks now.

We are in Boston (Dr. ) and have had the helmets made by NOPCO. The first

one rotated quite a bit, but we stuck with it for 5 weeks. After that length of

time, there had been no improvement in my son's head shape, and Dr.

thought that the helmet did not fit properly.

NOPCO made a 2nd helmet, and we tried that for a few days. However, it rotated

horribly (after a 2.5 hour fitting...), and NOPCO decided to make a 3rd helmet.

This one seems to fit better than the others, and it is certainly tighter.

However, now my son is having problems with rashes and sores (in general, he has

sensitive skin). We went back for another adjustment, and because they took

parts of the helmet out to alleviate the sores, the helmet is now looser and

rotates a little. Yesterday we had a big rash on the back of his head with

raised bumps, so we've had him out of the helmet for a day.

Have other people had similar issues with the Boston Band? Has anyone with these

sorts of problems found a solution that works? At this point, I'm ready to give

up because I know this is just cosmetic and I feel like I'm torturing my son. I

don't think I can go through another helmet fitting.

Thanks for the advice,

P.S. We take the helmet off for a couple of hours each day and clean it at least

twice day with water and alcohol. We put cornstarch on my son's head before

putting on the helmet, as he gets a bit sweaty with this last helmet.

We've been going to Cranial Technologies in Clinton, CT and have had good

results. My son " graduates " on Monday... just in time for Christmas!!!

It would be worth exploring your options. It cost us nothing to have the consult

done.

Good luck,

Helene
