For the red marks, you should call first thing Monday morning and see if they

can see you sometime Monday. Cranial Tech will want to know about any marks not

fading within the 20 minutes they recommend.

Some rotation is expected and according to our clinician, the amount of rotation

can depend on the head and where the holding pressures can be applied. We've had

three helmets so far and this is how they each fit:

Our first helmet had some slight tilting front to back (enough to cover the

eyebrows) and side rotation was never more than maybe a 1/2 inch either

direction.

My daughter's second helmet was loose enough that a child at daycare was able to

grab hold and twist it about a quarter turn around the head, bending the ears

underneath. My daughter could also slip it off like pulling a t-shirt over her

head with little to no effort. I could also hook my fingers where the ear slots

are and slide it off her head with just a finger on each side. Also while

walking around, the helmet would slide down over her eyes completely, not just

covering the eyebrows but the entire eye. We tightened the helmet (which they

say never to do) and even with the velcro 1/2 inch beyond the lower velcro there

still were no red marks appearing. I complained for 6 weeks on the fit of this

helmet before they agreed to an evaluation by the design team, leading to...

Our third helmet, a remake of the second helmet, so far (3 days now) has not had

any of the above issues and has movement similar to the first helmet we had, and

actually I would say it moves a bit less than the first one.

> Hi Everyone! I am new here, but have been following your posts for about 2

weeks. My son is now 4 ½ months old and just got his Doc Band on Friday (3/4/11)

from Cranial Technologies. He has been in physical therapy since about 4 weeks

old for Torticollis, but up until recently would only sleep on his left side.

Even though we started PT pretty early on and tried as much as possible to try

position him on his right side he has ended up with Plagiocephaly. Cranial

Technologies says they would put him in the extreme/severe category and have

said they think he is going to need two bands (which we will have to pay for out

of pocket). I have a few questions on how the band should fit at this point. He

still pretty much will only sleep with his head to the left unless you

repositioning him and there are 2 red marks on the left side of his head that

don't fade within an hour of taking the band off, or even within 2 or 3 hours at

times. The marks seem to be from where the two ends touch his head near the

strap. So I have had to leave the band off for a good amount of the weekend since

CT isn't open on the weekends. How many of you had this issue when first getting

the band? I also wanted to know how much the band should move when on his head.

It seems like it can move in either direction a good bit on his head. I was just

thinking it would be more of a snug fit and not have so much moving to it. We go

to Cranial Technologies in ndale, VA, does anyone have experience with them?

Any feed back on these issues would be greatly appreciated!

They usually make it a little big so they have a little room to grow, because if

they made it snug you would have to get a 2nd band right away. It should get

better soon, if it doesn't you need to ask your ortho to see if they might be

able to put a spacer in for now. Also on the red spots we put hydrocortizone

cream on let the cream dry then put triple antibiotic ointment on the red spots.

That should help or at least it helped us when we were unable to get to our

ortho right away. Hope this helps

Thanks for the info! We went in this morning and they made a few adjustments and

will see how it goes tonight. They also said to make it just a little bit

tighter at night so it won't rotate as much until he grows more.
