This afternoon I am taking my son (5 months) to get a starband. It was a hard

decision for us because most people can't even tell there is a problem (he is

10.6 mm). The orthotist said we could wait and see if it gets better but she

also felt that it would correct itself faster now if we band so we decided to go

ahead with it. I was confident about my decision but today I sort of feel sad

that I won't be able to kiss and cuddle him like I normally do. Of course I

still will but I'll miss his head. It sounds so silly.

We are going to Kimura in Blue Bell who has gotten good reviews from

this board but I'm still nervous. Once he is in it will this feeling go away? I

also worry about the helmet hurting his delicate fair skin. The posts I see

about red spots worry me a bit. Thanks for listening!!

Oh and any tips on decorating? I got the plain blue one hoping we could jazz it

up...

One good head-butt to the nose, and you'll get over it! I think that

happens at a certain age, anyway. :) But, you can still give him a

luxurious scalp massage/shampoo during the off hour. Helmets

interface adequately well with shoulders and arm-crooks. Actually, I

think I used to kiss Clara through the hole in the top, too.

He won't feel neglected; perhaps the contrary. Clara has now

generalized all medical attention as being positive, I think because

the helmet was her special thing that her twin didn't share. She

split her chin at the pool recently, and was the most charming little

patient you've ever seen as she was glued back together.
