Guest guest
If you are so bothered you should get an evaluation immediately. You will be so upset if you wait the 6 weeks and there was very little change. We loved Cranial Tech and my son had significant improvement in 10 weeks. His issue was inutero too. He has had major change and the helmet came off this week! Typically inutero babies do not fix from repositioning either. My friend's daughter had an inutero issue too and saw a chiro. The chiro didn't fix her problem and her baby was banded at 4 months. From: "mcintosh.stacey@..." <mcintosh.stacey@...>Plagiocephaly Sent: Sun, June 13, 2010 12:29:12 AMSubject: Needing advice or reassurance or something... Our beautiful baby boy was born with a flat spot on the left side of his head. We noticed it immediately, but waited until our 1 month appointment to talk with our pediatrician. She recommended waiting until our 2 month because she said these issues usually work out on their own. Despite our best tummy time and repositioning efforts, his head looks worse now. So we were referred to a pediatric chiropractor. We are now doing cranial adjustments (very gentle manipulation) 2x/weeks for the next 6 weeks. In my mind, his head is still getting worse. Convex on the right side and concave on the left; plus he looks so crooked when viewing him from the back. He almost 11 weeks and starting to lift his head, and I am noticing a moderate torticollis...so I have been doing neck stretches and tummy time with him. Our chiropractor says she sees this issue all of the time and that we should see a 50% improvement within 6 weeks, but in the meantime...this is eating me up inside and causing a strain on my marriage (because I am obsessing). I love my son so much and want to clear this up as soon as we can. We are in Seattle and the nearest Cranial Tech is in Pasadena. The Children's Hospital up here do helmets, but we would rather pay the travel expenses and get a custom fit band than have our baby wear what looks like a bike helmet with a strap if it comes to that. I would love advice. I would love to hear stories. I just feel so awful about this whole situation.
Guest guest
Hi, I would definitely make an appointment for a helmet evaluation. 3 months is still young for banding, but you can start the process of an evaluation and clearing it with insurance. My understanding is inutero cases are harder to fix, so you don't want to delay past age 5 to 6 months. I would still keep seeing the chiro if she has experience helping plagio/tort. CT is good, but there are other good providers out there. Are you sure there is not a recommended Starband provider in your area?  If the ortho is experienced, I believe you can get as least as good of results with a Starband as a Docband. Do you have a parent's group in your area with an email list? Or watch for banded babies in your area and ask where they go. Maybe, someone on this list knows of a qualified Starband provider in your area. We've been happy with our highly recommended and experienced local Starband ortho. Good luck, Kathy wrote:  If you are so bothered you should get an evaluation immediately. You will be so upset if you wait the 6 weeks and there was very little change. Guest guest
It sounds like your baby is still fairly young so, especially with the tort, I would continue with the chiropractor, but you may also want to check into some physical therapy. The chiro and PT should work together well. The chiro can help with both, but the PT will mostly likely only help with the tort. In the long run, fixing the tort helps with the head. In terms of the head and your area, I don't remember good options for that area if you are talking about banding. The chiro might help - it has helped some, but others haven't tried it - it isn't tried very often as the first treatment option. Be aggressive with the repositioning and I would try to get in somewhere for an evaluation so that you have an idea of the severity. This way, you could also get an idea of where you are starting from. If you don't notice an improvement after the 6 weeks, then start looking into a band. Hopefully others can help you with options in your local area. Cranial Tech is one option, but the 2nd and 3rd most popular are STAR band (orthoamerica makes it) and Hanger. People have also gotten good improvement from those products when they are in good hands. There are also some companies that do local bands, but you have to really look into them. What you really need is someone from your area to guide you. , mom to , 2 3/4 years STAR band grad May 2009 Chiro and CST land From: "mcintosh.stacey@..." <mcintosh.stacey@...>Plagiocephaly Sent: Sun, June 13, 2010 1:29:12 AMSubject: Needing advice or reassurance or something...
