Guest guest
Ruth,I think we could be going down this road with my 3.5 year old, Owen. He's been diagnosed on the spectrum with hyperlexia. BUT, he doesn't just read...he comprehends. He also grasps math concepts (like negative numbers!) easily and just astounds us at every turn. But, he's in a special ed. class, and I fear that the schools will have a difficult time dealing with his duality...obviously on the spectrum and needs special help in certain areas, but also obviously gifted.Mina -------------------------------Mina SmolinskiMommy to: 9/25/02 - NT 5/13/04 - PDD-NOSOwen 7/1/05 - PDD-NOS/HyperlexiaLila 3/3/07 - NT On Jan 20, 2009, at 6:02 PM, r_woman2 wrote:. Guest guest
Thank you Ruth! I think I will have to go to a pediatric neurodevelopmental specialist. The guessing like you said isn't doing anyone any good. I am going out of my mind and at the same time so hard to accept anything could be " wrong " with your child. It breaks my heart and I already start thinking: " what if he doesn't have any friends, what if he is beat up, what if he gets picked on " I've been crying all day today thinking the school is right and having to maybe accept this but I need help accepting it and knowing that by accepting it I can help him. Thank you so much for your input, you don't know how good it feels because I feel I don't have anyone to talk to about this. I'm thinking of seeking a support group here in Colorado just for my own sanity. I'm sure I will be posting quite a bit here just because you all seem so knowlegeable on this subject and when I start trying to research, my brain gets dizzy reading all these things. I also feel personal knowledge and everyday having to deal with it is better information anyway. Thanks again > > > . Guest guest
When I got my son into behavioral therapy with a psychologist one-on-one, she insisted that we (me and her alone) spend the last 25 minutes just talking about parenting and how I feel about everything. It was the best thing EVER! I was so tunnel-vision-focused on what was wrong with my son that I would oftentimes (who am I kidding? Nearly all of the time!) completely ignore what I needed myself. I really think the time with her was a godsend to me b/c I had someone who would listen unbiased and offer constructive feedback/advice. She also helped me stop taking the blame for everything that was wrong in my life and instead see what I was capable of doing to make things better. If you can, I highly recommend having support like this. It was a great investment! "Over-optimism is waiting for you ship to come in when you haven't sent one out." Guest guest
Thank you We actually went to see a behavioral therapist/family therapist with specialty in special needs kids and she is a music therapist. She seems like a good fit for our son. I know I also have to talk with her myself and I was able to talk to a woman at work actually who has a 10 y/o Aspie son, we had lunch today and we just started talking about our boys. I was able to cry and tell her my frustrations, it was a great outlet. We agreed to have more lunches together. She made me feel good too, telling me that my son sounds wonderful since she has LOTS of problems with her son. I guess it doesn't help having pity on yourself when someone else may have a worse situation!! Lesson learned. > > > > > . Guest guest
, Â I would do all of the first listed choices, with the exception of the hospital stay. That would NOT be helpful to you and could in fact make it worse. You certainly should do PT and water therapy classes, they can be extremely helpful, along with injections . Getting strong will decrease your pain, without a doubt. But is has to be done in a controlled environment and with supervision or you could easily hurt yourself. try to find a physical therapist who has a Master's Degree. So, I have two options offered to me by two different doctors. (A). Injection Therapy, 10 day hospital stay, water therapy, physical therapy and heat therapy. I am told that it will strengthen my back muscles which will take away the pain etc I am. (. Surgery, placing a cage into my spinal chord, no removal of bone from the hip. Guest guest
, How are you doing? Have you decided to accept the job offer? Is the decision still plaguing you? My aging body is recovering amazingly well from posterior cervical decompression with fusion c2-T2. It's been four weeks. Some days are good, some are not, and I have no energy. Hate being on pain meds but when I went off them for a couple of days last week, my body protested. Hope you're well, body and soul, in DC On Jun 5, 2009, at 4:55 PM, Babbitt wrote: , I would do all of the first listed choices, with the exception of the hospital stay. Guest guest
Hi ,  Yes, I did choose to accept the job offer, if/when it comes to me. i went for a pre-interview and the Chief ME is interested in having me join the team. The hold up is waiting for the state to post the position, as it has to be a fair and equal opportunity position.  I am not plagued by the decision anymore. I take comfort in the fact that I can move laterlly or vertically with other positions within the state if I can't handle it. But with the increased strength I've gotten from PT and regular aexercize...I feel like I can conquer the world!!! I have NO PAIN whatsoever on 9.5 out of ten days!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I take the Ultram ER 300mg in the morning, and withthat and exercize...I AM PAIN FREE!!!!!!!!!  It's a miracle. This is why i stress so much the importance of finding a highly trained PT with a masters degree and working your butt off to get fit. If you do it with properly trained  supervision...it will do amazing things. Even for me, after six surgeries and 16 years of this!!! I have never seen a PT with a Masters Degree before. I have done several PT rounds all with different people with little to no luck, but I also never gave it my all like I am now. This PT is different than those I had before, and I am working harder at it than I ever have...and it's paid off! I want this for all of you here! I want you all to experience even HALF of the relief I've experienced with getting stronger. It has changed my life!!!  Thanks for asking about me...it makes me feel good! I hope you are doing well...  in RI From: daniel <cdnlager2001> Subject: Looking for Information spinedisorderssuppo rtgroup@gro ups.com Date: Friday, June 5, 2009, 2:36 PM Hello all, I have posted on here a couple of times, and want to thank the people that have shared their suggestions and thoughts with me. Guest guest
: Â Â Thank you for your suggestions, The hospital stay is inconjuction with the injection therapy, it will be a controlled enviroment, where I will be doing water therapy, physical therapy and heat therapy with trained Physical Therapists, etc.. as far as their education level, well this I don't know and won't know, at least until I get into the treatment. I am thinking I will not be their first patient that is undergoing this treatment, and the doc has told me he has a high success rate. He is a Professor at the local University Hospital, and in fact I found out about him as my wife was sitting in on one of his lectures where he was talking about Spondylothesis and concervative treatment. So I made an appointment and went and saw him. I agree with you 100% to try everything I can before having to have any form of surgery. Â Thank you again, any more information you wish to share, or any suggestions on where I can find more information, please feel free. Â Have a wonderful weekend. P.S I am happy for you, that you are pain free and doing well. I am new to this group, so just read a little bit about you. Guest guest
Hi , So glad to hear your news, and to hear you're feeling good about your job decision, about your PT, and about life in general. For me, at least, once I make a difficult decision, it's like shedding a painful weight. Once I made the decision to have surgery, it was just a matter of deciding I'd deal with the consequences as they came along. It was all the back-and-forth arguments with myself preceding the decision that made me nuts. I'm proud of you for taking a risk that can only benefit you in the long run, for approaching the job in such a positive way, and, importantly, for modeling gutsy, sane behavior for your kids. Give yourself lots of credit. Guest guest
Hi, My name is and we have a 5 month old little boy. We have been told that he is a candidate for the starband helmet. We are just looking for success stories to help us decide what to do. We have our final appointment with the doctor and head shape clinic March 30th before we make the final decision. I guess another thing I am looking for is if you got a lot of people staring or asking questions when you took your baby out with the helmet on? Thanks for your anwsers in advance
