Guest guest
Hi everyone, My son Leonardo is 6 months old. I am from Brazil but we are living in Italy (so please apologize for my English). Two months ago he was diagnosticated with strabismus infantile (congenital). Since then he was seemed by a bunch of doctors (each one told us different things) and for the last 20 days he is wearing eyeglasses. During an eye doctor appointment 3 different persons (the orthotic, the nurse and the doctor) asked if Leonardo's flat head had been checked by an specialist. That was like a punch on my stomach. I was so concern by the strabismus that I didn't realized that Leonardo's head was very flat on the right back side and the ears was very misalign. Only 5 days later I got an appointment with a ped-neurosurgeon, who told us that Leonardo has moderate-severe positional plagiocephalia. I still don't know if he has torticollis as well (we are waiting an appointment the orthopedic pediatrician). The doctor prescribed the orthopedic helmet that will be ready in aprox 10 days. Here in Italy nobody knows about plagio. I had to travel to Bologna (2 hours far from Milan, where I live) in order to find a doctor that has some experience on this issue. The pediatrician told us that this is normal and that we just had to wait until his hair grow over! Everyone that hears about the helmet thinks that I am neurotic and cruel with my kid… In this context, can you imagine a baby with glasses and helmet! I'm afraid someone will call social services (kidding, but no so much) I've been a foreigner for 8 years but I never felt that alone in my life. Anyway, it really helps to read about your journeys here in this group. Based in your experience, is it too late to initiate the treatment (the helmet will be used from 6,5 months old)? Do the ears go to the proper position? Does anyone live outside the USA? Greetings to everyone Simone.
