Guest guest
I think it's VERY unusual for a Hanger band to never be adjusted. I know that some Hanger orthos only see patients once a month (which is also kind of unusual but not unheard of), but I'm pretty certain there are still adjustments done each time. It's definitely a Hanger band that has a foam lining to be shaved out? It sounds like maybe your ortho is not very experienced and I too would be concerned that you are not seeing the results you hoped for. Especially because of the somewhat late age of your son (at 11 months, you should have still hit some good growth spurts though). Do you have any other orthos in your area that you can go to for a second opinion? Jake-3 (DOCBand Grad 9/08) > > My DS got a band from hanger at about 11 months for plagio. He's only had appts every month and they have never adjusted it. At his last appt at 13 months, they said his plagio was down to 4 mm difference and that we could stop the helmet if we wanted to, but that we didn't need to come back. I don't know. I'm kind of disappointed in the care. He has some brachy to him and I've noticed that his head doesn't come out very much at the nape. But the orthotist didn't seem to notice that. So, today I was thinking that it looks like the helmet is tight at his nape, so I am wondering if the helmet is not allowing his head to grow at the base, where I think it needs to. I guess my question is, is it normal for a band to not be adjusted at all during treatment? >
Guest guest
We are using Hanger for our son. He has been using it for about 2 months now. He made great progress the first 3 weeks during a growth spurt but has since slowed down and still has a bit of a parallelogram shaped head. They scheduled us to go back once/month, but we have probably gone back once every two weeks or so since we have called them about things that we think need adjusting. The helmet was shifting forward over his eyes at night, which they couldn't do much to fix and we noticed a bump over his right ear which they shaved some of the helmet and added padding elsewhere. Beyond that, for the actual plagiocephaly they have not had to adjust it. He hasn't really gotten too big for it, so they have not needed to shave anything out. I think we are just waiting for his next growth spurt. Actually, when we went back a couple days ago, the orthotist said he went thru a growth spurt, but the asymmetry didn't change at all. Hopefully, that will change over the next month. > > > > My DS got a band from hanger at about 11 months for plagio. He's only had appts every month and they have never adjusted it.
