We are still waiting for our CT appointment at the end of next

week because I had to cancel our 1st one last week. We also

noticed an issue early on but were not too concerned until Tyler’s 8

week appointment. This is when our doctor showed us that he had the issue

of favoring his right side (though I do not remember her specifically saying “tort”

at that time”.) From his 2 month until his 4 month appointment, we

worked really hard on consistently stretching his neck to his left side.

Our Pediatrician told us to turn his head to the left and hold it for 15

seconds 3 times in a row. She showed us with him lying on his back;

however, we typically found it easier if he was sitting on our lap with his back

against our stomach.

For Tyler, it was extremely

difficult to turn his head to the left. After 2 months of exhausting PT

and a baby that was tired of us stretching his neck to the left, our

Pediatrician referred us to CT. Now that we have been waiting longer

(just 2 more weeks), we have noticed a HUGE difference in his neck/tort and his

plagio seems a little better – though not great.

We are looking forward to seeing CT and hearing what they

have to say about the severity of the plagio. Our doctor told us that

some children start getting better as they are older because they have less

time with pressure on their head.

I would definitely start PT or basic stretching now, as it

seems to take several weeks/months to correct. I’m really happy

that we are beginning to see the PT paying off now because, as many people

mentioned, the band cannot correct the tort issue.

Best wishes for you and your family…

* Side note: Our older son had a “flat spot” on

his head when he was younger as well, but it seemed to correct itself and

showed great improvement by the time he was 5-6 months. It really just depends

on the severity, as all children are different. With Tyler, we may

decide to band his ASAP depending on what CT says. Just remember to stay

calm as the band tends to be a cosmetic correction for the majority of children

- rare cases being the exception. Waiting another week or 2 for an

evaluation will not cause any harm to brain development, etc. (This was

my initial concern!) Take care…
