CSEA Announces Partnership with Posada Foundation and CAPPS for 5k

Run/Walk

MINEOLA: CSEA Nassau Local 830, Nassau County's largest public service union

with 10,000 members, has announced that they will be holding their First Annual

5k Run/Walk on Sunday, October 31, 2010 at Nassau Community College in Garden

City. They have partnered with the Posada Foundation for Craniosynostosis

and CAPPS (Craniosynostosis and Positional Plagiocephaly Support Inc.) The race

will be presented by Bethpage Federal Credit Union with 165,000 members

nationwide.

Craniosynostosis is a condition in which one or more of the sutures of an

infant's skull prematurely fuse. Surgery is the only treatment for this.

Positional plagiocephaly is when the sutures are open and early diagnosis and

treatment are important to avoid further deformity. One in every 2,000 infants

are affected by Craniosynostosis and one in every 350 by Positional

Plagiocephaly.

All profits from the race will be going to both of these organizations. The

race will be open to all CSEA Local 830 members, as well as the entire Long

Island community and beyond. Posada will be donating memorabilia as raffle

prizes. Appearances are expected by 's wife , and possibly

himself depending on the Yankees playoff fortunes.

Other features will be a kids' fun run, best costume contest, information fair

for sponsors, refreshments, and awards to age group winners. The race is

certified by United States Track and Field (USATF) on a brand new course at

Nassau Community College.

CSEA Local 830 President is Jerry Laricchiuta. Local 830 is under CSEA Long

Island Region One and President Nick LaMorte with 50,000 members. The CSEA

Statewide President is Danny Donohue, with over 300,000 members.

The Posada Foundation has was created ten years ago by the Yankee catcher.

CAPPS was founded in 1999 and has 7,000 members worldwide. They are led by CSEA

Local 830 member Amy Galm.
