Guest guest
This is definitely possible! We have become sensitive enough to 's head that we can notice the most subtle of improvements and until recently could see a tiny bit of improvement weekly. I still believe there has been improvement within the past couple weeks. is past 23 months. Congratulations! I put the little stocking on my son's head today just to peek at his head shape and i swear it is looking better. Am I nuts?! Has anyone noticed the same thing in a child banded as late as 14/15 months? Maybe I am just seeing what I want to see. honestly though I have had realistic expectation that we aren't going to get much in the way of correction since we started so late. Guest guest
Hope for the best, prepare for the worst... My theory is that a crack helmet can flex the skull plates into as symmetrical a shape as possible in as little as four days. (If theories interest you, find " angular conformance " in the message archives.) Whether it " sticks, " however, would still depend on skull growth as the helmet holds that shape. At this age, there is more suture formation occurring in the front of the head, so hopefully there are meaningful gains to be made up there. Clara's eye tracking improved, and that was a big concern for us. But I'm bitterly disappointed with her regressed flat occiput and ear misalignment, because our orthotist never really got a good fit at all until she was nearly done (and way older than your baby). That's why it's so important to have the best available clinician. Something you might have more control over is that if you're scheduled for an adjustment in a month, and the holding points start missing in two weeks, you stand to lose half the benefit, IMO. Call for an adjustment when the closure starts feeling different, rather than when it becomes difficult, because " spring action " in the plastic shell is NOT what makes the helmet effective. Quite the contrary. -- Thad Launderville Montpelier, VT Clara age 2, STARband '10 On May 17, 2010, at 10:23 PM, Karin wrote: > Ok, maybe this is psychosomatic but is it possible to see > noticeable improvement in the first two weeks of treatment at 14.5 > months of age? Guest guest
Absolutely possible. My daughter was banded at almost 15 months on November 17, 2008. At the beginning of December, I took some pictures and it was clear that there was already some slight improvement. You will probably see the most improvement in the next couple of months. After about 17 or 18 months, the improvement seems to come is spurts for the older babies. Their growth spurts are smaller and less frequent, but they do occur. Congratulations. Improvements in just two weeks for an older child? Ok, maybe this is psychosomatic but is it possible to see noticeable improvement in the first two weeks of treatment at 14.5 months of age?
