Guest guest
Does the bought dessert have to be GF? If you need to take something inexpensive and purchased pre-made, you can avoid eating the dessert yourself and leave the leftovers for the host. I assume you've ruled out fruit, which I often take. Someone in a potluck group I go to often brings an ice cream maker and ingredients. She pours in the chilled ingredients as we begin dinner, and it's ready to eat, soft-style, by the time we finish the rest of the meal. Whole Foods has quite a few GF baked items, including cookies and cakes made by Crave. They tell me that their lemon almond torte is GF; the label says wheat-free, and none of the listed iingredients include gluten. H. It's for my department and everyone on up to the judge will be there, so I want to make sure it's nice. Any ideas? I talked to my Whole Foods in San and they have a Chocolate Decadance Cake and a Chocolate Espresso Cake. Sound good, but pretty pricy. $22.99 for an 8" cake. Guest guest
Or use some creme fraiche, or a yogurt mixture, etc. H. Guest guest
After looking at the Crave Bakery website, WF looks pretty darn cheap! 8” Cake feeds 10 - 12 people $45 ($50 with raspberry filling)10” Cake feeds 14 - 16 people $60 -------------- Original message -------------- I have to take a dessert to a potluck and probably won't have time to make something. I called my local ice cream store, Silbermann's, to find out about ice cream cakes and/or pies and they were kind enough to look at the icing ingredients while I was on the phone. There is wheat starch. DOH! I probably wouldn't have even asked about that - I just wanted to find out if they would make it without the actual cake! Does anyone know of other places I can find desserts? It can be in Marin or San Francisco. TIA Trudy

Guest guest
It's as much a treat for myself as it is for my co-workers. I considered the ice cream maker idea, but I've never been to this person's house and don't know what a hassle that might be. I also have a 2yo, so the less involved the better. I think I will go to WF tomorrow and see what I can find. I will keep the fruit and cream idea in mind for myself though! Do you just pour it over the berries and eat it like cereal? thanks Trudy -------------- Original message -------------- Does the bought dessert have to be GF? Guest guest
Another potentially gluten free dessert is Flan, which you can buy already made at the Milk Pail in the San Shopping Center. It should be less expensive than the specialty gluten free cakes. If you can tolerate dairy, how about some gourmet flavors of ice cream or gelato- there are some interesting flavors out there, like mexican chocolate, or pumpkin, etc... doesn't have to just be vanilla and strawberry! > I have to take a dessert to a potluck and probably won't have time to make something.
