Guest guest
I " m sorry for the delay in posting..I've had a hard time logging in & replying. - I do feel anything under age 5 is too young to be in a booster (especially a backless booster). A child needs to be mature physically & emotionally to be in a booster seat. The child needs to sit properly in the seat 100% of the time in the car. This means not falling asleep & slumping over, not leaning over for a toy, etc. There are several seats that now harness up to 65 pounds. Depending on your son's torso length & your budget I can recommend some for you. - You are right to want to keep him harnessed for as long as possible! It is definitely the safest option (just think of race car drivers! They use a 5 point harness!) Depending on your child's torso height & also your budget I can make a more personalized recommendation but really any of the seats out there that harness up to 65 pounds are good. We have our oldest in the Graco Nautilus & have been happy with it. As you know from your other seat, just make sure you read carefully & ensure that the HARNESS goes up to 65 pounds. And, just a quick note on verbiage...boosters must always be used with a lap & shoulder belt combo...never just the lap belt. > > > From: <melanie.watson@...> > Subject: Re: carseat and Starband -OT for > Plagiocephaly > Date: Thursday, March 25, 2010, 7:38 AM > > > Â > > > > > > > > > > > > > > Â - > Â > As a technician, do you have any recommendations for a car seat for a child that is about to turn 4 and is 42ish pounds. Because he is a large child and outgrew his convertable car seat at age 2, he has been in a 5-point restraint booster seat, but the harness is getting snug and I looked it up and found out that the harness is only good until 40 pounds. I know that he could technically go to a lap belt booster, but I worry about whether that is the safest option. So, I started looking into getting him another seat that will take him up to a higher weight. Any thoughts from an expert? > > carseat and Starband > > HI Kara! > > I'm a Certified Child Passenger Safety Technician. Â Your son's head should > not be slumping forward if he is rear facing.
