Guest guest
, just a few things: Moving away from the mold will help. Even in winter months I air my house daily by opening windows and/or doors. I also go out side and take the children or let them run out and play! Fresh air is just plain old good for you! I suffer from an auto-immune disorder of Rheumatoid Arthritis. I do not suffer as much as many do but stress has an effect on all people's health. Faith in a Higher Power (mine being in the Great I Am, God) It helps. Others here can tell you more about the homeopathy and remedies as I have never used them except once for colic and I do have some nerve homeopathic tablets that I used to take. Guest guest
Hi , I'm new to the group and have been only " lurking " since I joined a month or so ago, but your post on mastitis caught my attention because I went through about 5 bouts (3 were severe enough that I had to take antibiotics) of mastitis while I was nursing my first child (I have two and am currently nursing a 5 month old). Of course, the stress is probably causing you to weaken, but there may be a couple of things you can do to help your body. This sounds really mundane, but are you eating enough and are you eating good food? (fresh veggies, grains, high quality protein) One key difference between my condition after having my first and second child was that I was so much better nourished after the birth of the second. I had terrible postpartum depression after my first and didn't eat well for nearly 4 months because I lost my appetite. If you are tired a lot, can you ask some kindhearted friends to cook you meals? Don't be afraid to ask because people won't know you need help if you don't tell them. It's a good thing you're moving out of the moldy house. Mold causes major allergies especially in the winter. I don't know what you can do about the mold in the walls, but if you have airconditioning/heating vents, you probably get lots of mold from there too. You might be able to install HEPA filters in the vents. Good luck and I hope you feel better soon. Marita

Here's how I understand the situation. If someone else has a different idea or can word it better, pitch in. With AIH, my immune system is attacking my liver, far too efficiently. My immune system somehow thinks that my liver belongs to someone else; it sees my liver as being an invader. I must temporarily disable my immune system so it won't destroy my liver, which is a part I can't do without. I do this by taking Imuran (aziothioprine.) I assume CellCept has the same properties, as it's used by people who have had organ transplants. The trade-off is that with the desirably weak immune system I have fewer defenses against the bacteria and viruses and such that everyone encounters. For example, I'm having a problem with thrush, which results from a fungus that is ubiquitous and no problem at all to adults with ordinary immune systems. If someday I were to have a liver transplant, I'd need to suppress my immune system even further to keep my body from kicking out the new liver. So, that's why we want to have badly-functioning immune systems and why we have to keep washing our hands a lot! Guest guest
Bravo!! LOL Well done Harper..... " We " are very pleased with your explanation. Don't you just love it when people (well meaning people) tell you they read this or that or you should try this or that to IMPROVE the immune system. It is a very hard concept to understand, even for those of us that have no choice but to muddle through it all as best we can. No one should feel bad about having a hard time grasping it all, I often get the feeling that the doctors treating us don't grasp it all either! Peggy I certainly didn't know any of this when I developed AIH, and it took me a long time to learn it. So, I'm not surprised that people outside AIH don't know. Guest guest
Yes Harper....that makes much more sense and is a good piece to copy and give to others who don't understand! For me, my body thinks it is being invaded by a foreign body!!! My entire immune system was in such overdrive....my skin pigmentation left. Now, with the drugs for my liver, I am finding that my skin color is returning! Interesting...at least my dermatologist thought so. It also is helping with my gut problem and helping me to get the nutrients that go along with celiac sprue. I also don't have to take massive doses of dapsone to control the skin lesions-although the gluten free diet has controlled that too, but occasionally there is a breakthrough from something I ate that has gluten in it! On the whole, I am blessed to have gotten some meds to help with the liver. But still wonder if this system will ever be normal again! debby Re: [ ] Re: Immune systems In a message dated 2/11/02 5:17:23 PM Pacific Standard Time, tdcc2000@... writes: Harper, that statement in itself is crazy to me, for if my immune system is working overtime, then in my thinking......as weird as it is.....then I would think we would all be super people! Guest guest
Hi everyone, I'd appreciate your advice / input. I'm a celiac and have been for about 1 year and 3 months. I'm pretty strict about my GF diet. I'm sick (with a cold or something else) a lot; this is the fourth time I've been sick in four months. Also, in the spring, I had a terrible case of mono and had to miss a bunch of school. I was wondering if anyone knows if our immune systems are compromised due to the disease or the new diet or whatever. I used to be healthy (before getting diagnosed!); now I just get sick a lot, even though I try to get balanced meals, eat well, and exercise regularly. If anyone has any ideas or suggestions or advice, that'd be great. Thanks! Nalani __________________________________ - PC Magazine Editors' Choice 2005 http://mail. Guest guest
Nalani, Another possibility is you could have multiple food allergies. I do. For a year I was getting along well on a gluten-free diet and then I started getting reactions to a lot of other foods. Six weeks ago I was diagnosed with 11 intolerances. Eliminating them got rid of all the gut problems but I was still having intermittent chest and throat pressure, extreme fatigue, weakness and feeling fuzz-brained. This was accompanied by a drop in blood pressure. These would occur several times a week, lasting an hour or two, but there would be other days when I felt energetic and normal. After a lot of internet search and talking with a York Laboratory expert, it seems likely that I have sensitivity to salicylates and amines. I hope you don't have this because it limits your choice of foods. Fruits are the worse--only fruit I can eat without a reaction are pears. After 10 days of avoiding salicylates, I can't be completely sure--but the last three days have been much better. Have you tried eliminating all the other major allergens: nuts, corn, soy, etc? Do you have a doctor, or alternative healer to guide you? THis is a very helpful website (from Australia) listing the salicylate/amine content of foods. Medical community in Australia and New Zealand are recognizing that food allergy/intolerance is a huge factor in patients' health. http://www.users.bigpond.com/mywebhome/sindex.html#Anchor-Frui-36300 Good luck--hope you feel better soon. It's bad enough having to eliminate foods you like, but after going to all the effort, it's really frustrating when you still feel bad.
