Guest guest
I'm not going to be much help because I'm going through the decision making process like you. I'm also in NC. I ruled out the passive band at Baptist (though I do love the people at Brenner's, we've went there for other issues). From what I've read passive helmets have worked great for some, but not for others. I don't want to waste the time and money if it doesn't work and then have to spend a longer amount of time in an active band because I waited to long. I'm trying to decide between CT in Charlotte and Hanger in sville (which I'm closer to). I'm not saying a passive helmet would be the wrong decision for you though. I hope you get some good feedback here. I'm curious to hear other's experiences too. > > Baby P. is need of helmet therapy. Our pediatrician recommends the passive helmet used at Winston-Salem Baptist Hospital- which is over 2 hrs away( if we really think it's necessary ) we wouldn't have to travel for fittings as often with the passive prefab. type and it's much less expensive. > However, we first went for a Doc band evaluation at Cranial Tech in Charlotte, NC yesterday (about 1 1/2 hrs away) because of positive reviews that we had read. They were so kind and helpful and say she definitely would benefit from wearing the band. Our insurance prob. will not cover expenses though. > Also, even though I realize the more wearing time the better results, summer weather has arrived and we have plans for beach and a number of outdoor activities. I guess I feel like maybe we should go with the prefab. even if it takes a bit longer to correct, so she can take it off a little more often in extreme outdoor heat-etc. I wouldn't have to worry about the prefab helmet being outgrown as quickly too. I've read numerous articles, and I'm not so worried about looks of the helmet to others (although of course don't look forward to the stares) I worried about her sweating and being miserable this summer! Please give advice-she will be 6 months old June 30th- we really need to start soon. > I know DOC bands are great, but I'd like to hear from anyone who used a prefab passive helmet and if it did the job. >
