Re: Successful Results with Older Babies?

Hi,

I'm not sure how severe your baby is, but close to full correction

is possible starting at 9 months.  We started at 12 months for

mild/moderate plagio and got down to normal range by keeping our

Starband on extra long and using alternative treatments.  There is

some residual from the plagio, so it is not full correction, but it

was good correction.

Best,

Kathy

likelihood of full correction isn't very high but there

will be some. Does anyone have great success stories with

older babies (to help us worry a little less) with more

than just a small correction? I believe we are going with

a DOC band. Thanks!

Hi. I am in Miami and my son just got his star band at 11 months. Its only been two weeks but so far so good. Older babies just take a little longer to complete treatment. My pediatrician said that as long as their soft spot at the top of the head hasnt closed, their heads are still moldable. I think you are doing fine with time. I went for the evaluation at Cranial Tech and was ready to pay $3800 for the DOC band but then I learned that Miami Childrens hospital had a therapist whos specialty is to treat babies with the star band. Our insurance covers the Star band, so we went with them. Anyway, based on everything I've read and what Ive seen on my son so far, I think you are doing well with time. Best of luck!

,Your son still has time to get great correction. My daughter was banded at 8 months and I was so upset at the time, thinking that she was too old to get great correction. I asked the neurosurgeon about this and he was very reassuring. He was right. My daughter went from 14.5 to 2.47 in 15 weeks. Her follow-up scan last week(almost 4 months post band) showed she had further improved to 1.0mm. Good luck!-Amy From:

So great to know, thanks! If you don't mind, what type of alternative

treatments did you do?

Thanks, again!

Thanks for your response. Best of luck to you! Glad to hear all is well so

far. I also live in Florida and I'm going to Cranial Tech in Miami tomorrow for

an evaluation. It's quite a far drive for me but worth it to get better

treatment than where I live. Good to know about the Star band at Miami

Children's - I wasn't aware of that. Thanks again and good luck!

Wow, that's great!! I'm so happy to hear that about your daughter. I've been

so upset, thinking that we're too late to get corrected. Your story is a relief

to hear. Thanks again!

While in the helmet we tried osteopath and chiro with CST. We also

did PT for torticollis. -Kathy

we started at 9 months as well, and at last measurement earlier this month we are within 1/8 of an inch of full correction.

My son was banded at 10 months. We saw immediate results within 2 weeks of the shape of his head. Then the results slowed down. He was in his helmet for 5 months and did have a small decrease in head size but shaping was improved by quite a bit. We're glad that we did it. Especially since he is a boy and will not have as much hair to cover up his head shape later in life. He's almost 2 now and has more hair and is growing into his head size more. I don't notice a big difference between his head and other kids his age by looking. Hope this gives you some encouragement.
