Guest guest
Hi All- First off, what a wealth of info here. I have learned a lot! My 4 month old son will be getting his DSI next week and his DOC band the following week. He has severe plagio of 18mm and 96.1% Brachy. I think I have a pretty good handle on everything except the band. After reading a couple of posts here I am getting the impression that the DOC bands come 2 different ways: for plagio or brachy. Our intention is to only have one band with high hopes this is all he will need. With that being said I am now concerned that his band will only treat either the plagio or the brachy but not both at the same time. Am I correct or way off base here? Another concern I have is I worry about the DOC band's opening at the top. My baby has a cone shape and I have a hard time understanding how the cone shape will not continue with the top being open. Again, am I crazy here? Last question: Facial asymmetry. I guess I am having a hard time fully understanding this as well. My son's asymmetry seems to be different then most. In that it is up and down, meaning on his plagio side his eye, eyebrow sits higher (since birth) than the unaffected side. Now he came out with a sideways cone-shaped head and his nose on the plagio side was very crooked and after looking at photos I can see his jaw line was sitting higher on the plagio side as well. But these were new-born photos. The jaw line seems to have resolved but I wonder if the asymmetry was cuased in utero. Sorry for the babbling. Again, appreciate this group so much-many thanks!! Guest guest
Hi Tammi, My son wears a Doc Band and he also has a combo of plagio and brachy. I think it is harder to treat than a classic plagio. With the asymmetry that your son has, he will be getting a palgio band, but it will also improve his brachy numbers. Don't worry about the opening on the top. Once you have the band on , the head will stop growing in that direction. The band will take the pressure off of the flat areas of the head and this is where the growth will go. As for needing 1 or 2 bands, you can ask your tech their opinion. Sometimes they can tell right away, based on the severity, if a baby will need one or two bands. Good luck with everything! Guest guest
My son also came out with uneven eyebrows and a cone head pushed off to one side, neither of which went away on their own. He has plagio and is also getting a DOC Band (this Wednesday, yay!). So yes, plagio can start in utero, especially if your baby is too big for you or stuck in a position that is squishing his head. If your son came out with his eyebrows uneven, I'd say he must have gotten it in utero. Often, it gets worse or fails to go away on it's own once they come out because they are most comfortable with their head on the flattest area. Good luck with treatment! > > > > Hi All- > > > > First off, what a wealth of info here. I have learned a lot!
