It is not painful to have the babies measured. The can do hand measurements with calipers or a scan. I do not live in an area where there is a Cranial Tech or Hanger office, so we went through a cranio/facial specialist. She did hand measurements and then scanned my daughter. I have read on here that certain places do scans without a script, but I do not know who they are. I am sure that someone else will commont on that.

Our 2 month old is diagnosed with Torticollis and Plagiocephaly .Pediatrician says the condition is moderate and suggested only PT. He is not very co-operative with exercises.I would like to know where to get head measurements done so that we know how much is the deviation and also track the progress. We live in Seattle. Also, Is the measuring process painful for the babies. How do they actually do itMany thanks in advance.

My daughter is now 8-1/2 months old and was diagnosed with the same as your son at 2 months. Our pediatrician referred us to Children's Hospital in Seattle, where we were basically given a wait and see approach to see if physical therapy/repositioning would correct it or, if not, we would want to consider banding. No measurements were ever taken until, by 6 months, after 4 months of physical therapy (which was difficult because she was not cooperative, either) and repositioning, no visible change had been made, and we were referred to Hanger Orthotics. At that point, they took measurments using what looks almost like a sliding "L" ruler. Not painful, and as long as they can keep baby distracted, it only takes a couple of minutes, and baby barely notices it (my baby likes to try to look at the measuring device, though, so it

takes a bit longer). We waited a month and then went in for a re-measure, at which point we were told no significant change had been made, and we had about a 4-week window in which to decide whether to band or not.

I have to say that I wished they would have measured earlier. If, after 2 months (when she was 4 months old) we had some concrete evidence of there being no positive change, I believe our decision to band would have been earlier and easier. Now, she is 8 months old and is just in her 2nd week of treatment. We have been reassured that she is making good progress now, based on measurements, but I cannot visibly see a difference yet.

Hope this helps you. I would suggest being a little aggressive and trying to get a helmet consultation (even if you aren't sure about whether to helmet or not) as soon as possible so you at least have some solid information on which to base your decision.

P.S. We live pretty far from Seattle so go to Hanger in Tacoma, but I believe they do have offices closer to Seattle, too.
