Guest guest
Hi Everyone, We FINALLY were able to get the referrals we have been asking for and were able to see a specialist from Hanger who measured our 12 month old sons degree of plagiocephaly. He measures at 10mm, which from what I understand is moderate. It looks worse than moderate to us so we are going ahead with getting our son measured for the helmet. Everyone we have spoken with has said that starting a helmet at 12 months won't provide very many results, but the Hanger specialist said if our son wore the helmet for upwards of 9 months we might be able to see the number decrease to 6mm. 9 months seems like a long time for our son to wear the Hanger helmet, but we want to make sure he has an opportunity for improvement so are thinking we'd rather regret trying it than regret not trying it. Our son is worth it! So my questions are whether it is too late (12.5 months old by the time we get the helmet) to see great improvement, whether 9 months is a fair estimate, and to what extent anyone's children experienced any problems (skin irritations, etc.) that were difficult to manage? I am worried my son will hate the helmet, but have been told it depends on how the parents approach it in terms of attitude. I am worried about my son experiencing discomfort and about failing to do everything correct for him. Probably normal concerns! If anyone is able to take some time to answer these questions, we would be so very appreciative:) And finally, I guess I might ask if anyone has experience with Hanger? Thanks so much for your time!!! Ally & Niko
