Guest guest
My daughter will have her helmet for one week on Thursday. She is doing really well and sleeping in it fine. We have noticed that she is rubbing her right eye a lot when the helmet is on. We asked the orthotist yesterday about this and she said that it was probably due to her cold. We took the helmet off for her one hour off last night and she did not mess with her eye at all. As soon as we put it back on she started rubbing her eye again. It seems that the helmet may be pushing down on her forehead causing her eye to be shut a little...has anyone else experienced this? Or is it just from the cold? Guest guest
It could be the cold but I know when my daughter had the helmet, if it was not fitting properly, it may push down on the forehead some causing her eyes to look smaller due to the pressure. I would just take my daughter back in to the orthodist and have her take off the helmet and put in back on to see if it needs adjusting. I remember we had that problem in the beginning. It takes a while before we can learn how to prproperly put these helmets on. But your daughter's face should look the same with or without the helmet on...i.e. the eyes should not look smaller. Hope this helps. > > My daughter will have her helmet for one week on Thursday. She is doing really well and sleeping in it fine. Guest guest
I think this is totally fine, as long as your baby is able to adjust to the new sensation of her eye being a little squished and isn't rubbing it so much it's getting irritated or infected. The helmet is supposed to hold against any prominent spots, and typically plagio means that one side of the forehead is more prominent. Where the helmet holds against the prominent side of the forehead, the skin will squish a little at first. This got better on my son really quickly as his head shape started to correct. In a week, it was already starting to look better enough that people who seem him regularly were commenting. Hang in there, and I think you'll be happy with the results. : ) > > My daughter will have her helmet for one week on Thursday. She is doing really well and sleeping in it fine.
