Shady Creek Family Camp will provide a special gluten free menu as part of its regular family camp program. My family would love to attend Shady Creek but both my son and I are Celiacs and it just wouldn't be the same if we neededto bring our own food. The owner of the camp has offered to hold a unique gluten free session and design a menu and special buffet for families on a gluten free diet. We need at least 10 families to sign up. If you reserve space and we don't get 10 families by June 16th, Shady Creek will give you a full refund. Family camp is designed to be a one-week vacation but, for this summer as an introduction, we have the option of doing a 3-nightstay (or more, if you like).Shady Creek is a wonderful, new, all-inclusive family camp located near Grass Valley in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains, near the Tahoe National Forest. It is about a 3 hour drive from San Francisco. The camp was designed for families to spend quality time together in the great outdoors. There are organized activities during the day including arts & crafts, swimming, ropes course, climbing wall, biking, nature hikes and a variety of other sportsactivities. The organized evening activities include campfires, talent show, outdoor movie night and surprise Guest Night. Offsite, Shady Creek offers wakeboarding and waterskiing, trips to a local gold mine and box lunches at swimming holes along the Yuba River.Families stay in new cabins with private decks, a lodge withloft rooms, or adobe dome cabins with skylights and patios. Each room or cabin has one queen and two twin beds (more beds are provided for larger families.)Three meals per day are served in a large, spacious dining hall and the pool is open all day. This is an opportunity for a great family vacation and for you and your kids to meet others on a gluten-free diet. If we can get a group together by June 17 the partial week rates per night are $115 per adult, $94 per child from 2-17, and $9 per child for under 2 years. If this sounds good to you, please send Ann an email at areigelman@.... I would like to know what you think, even if you can't make it, and I would like to get an initial indication of how many families would like to go to Shady Creek. For all of the details on Shady Creek, please go tohttp://www.shadycreekcamp.com, or call 800-826-7310. (Reminders are always welcome!) Some goodnews for those who fly on United Airlines: they finally reinstatedthe gluten free special meal. It appears to be accurate if not exciting - plain chicken breast with a little tomato sauce, plainrice (dry but it is an airplane), broccoli, apple sauce and of course the puffed rice cake. They are probably using the same meal for low fat and low sugar, etc, as it is very dietetic, but saves us from starvation. In Business class they enhanceit a bit with better salad and fruits than the regular people. Bestif you can mix and match with a fellow traveler who gets cheeseand yogurt and other choices. But this really helps if you are not able to carry on food, get stuck in long lines, etc. I always try to carry food with me, but I am pleased that we are getting the attention we deserve! Since United is struggling to survive,we won't complain about the lack of imagination.-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------Note: This list is confidential and will be used only to keepyou informed of local celiac activities and important celiacconcerns.
