The Four Seasons Pahu i'a is excellent!!! Of course,

it's super expensive too. But, worth it and they made

me a great gluten free meal.

The Coast Grill at the Hapuna Prince was also good,

not quite as pricey as the Four Seasons.

There's an Outback there, but that's not too exciting.

If you're near the Volcano, Kilauea Lodge & Restaurant

is good.

There's also an excellent health food store near

Safeway and Walmart. I can't remember the name at the

moment.

To whoever is interested,

I'm the CDF contact for Hawaii, although I am based in Honolulu.

One of our group members lives in Kona, and has provided information

on gluten-free stores, etc. to visitors to the Kona area. If you are

interested in more information, let me know, and I'll give you her

email address. Thanks, and take care.

Hi Nalani,

I am the one who wrote about going to

Kona. I did send you and e-mail directly but not sure if you got it.

We will be there from 5/12/ till 5/18. We

are staying with an Uncle so we can have control of the cooking of most of our

meals, but it would be very nice to get out for lunch or dinner.

Our other problem is that my son (5),

daughter (2) and I are GF and dairy, soy and nut free too. It gets to be a real

bummer eating out – mostly Mexican, or burgers and fries!

Maybe also a recommendation for health

food stores. I do remember one by Safeway in Kona – any others?

Thanks so much!!!!

I used to work for a restaurant called The Galley in Morro Bay that had a sister restaurant in Kona They had the same menu except the restaurant in Kona had the tropical fish. You could order any fish they served "naked" so it would not be dredged in flour first. Also the broiled fish were safe. I do not know if they are still there because it has been 25 years since I worked there. Avoid all the soups, anything deep fried Shared fryers), and the rice pilaf but they had white rice.

I wanted to reply to the group and let

everyone know of the FABULOUS meals we had in HI.

We did a brunch on Mother’s day at

the Sheraton and of course they had a great spread with lots to choose from.

The best was the fresh fish and an omelet bar.

We also had dinner at Outback. Their prime

rib is always outstanding.

The best was ……One day we went

on a road trip from Kona to Wailea. We knew we needed to find dinner there but

did not know what would be there to choose from. We found a health food store

and picked up a few staple products and asked about good restaurants. We were referred

to ‘Wailea Ranch House’ which served Italian fare, or ‘Charley’s’

for Thai food. We did not want to try Charley’s for fear of nut + fish

allergies.

We did go over to the Ranch House and

viewed the menu. It seemed a bit pricey at about $22 each for entrees, but it

looked like they had options for us. We decided to try it …and it was the

best meal we had on the island (even better than the Sheraton brunch) and the

best GF,DF,SF meal I have had (and not had to cook) for a long time. I had a

salad, and a lamb chop entrée with fries and grilled asparagus.

Excellent!! Everyone really enjoyed their meals. The food was so great that we

were talking about it for days. The owners were very accommodating and wanted

to be very careful about our allergies (the wife has fish allergies).

Hope you all have a chance to get to Hawaii and enjoy the

food.
