What a pity. I had been delighted to hear they were serving GF pasta. But, to advertise such dishes and then not carry through on their safety is quite horrible. In Italy, I'm told that there are some places that will let you bring your own GF pasta and then cook it for you in "fresh" water -- but I've never been sure I would trust it. (Besides, the world is full of other good things to eat.)

Before CD, I used to eat at the original Pasta Pomodoro, in the Marina, more nights than not, because it stayed open late. Then, the owners, a young husband and wife, were the main cook and server -- and they also were the carpenters who built the restaurant. The food was spectacularly good and inexpensive. And the servers were always really, really cute!

Then, the owners divorced and the little restaurant became a chain. Pre-CD, I ate there one time, but the food had become mediocre.

Too bad.

Jen,

I ate there once successfully, but the second time I got glutened.  Eventhough I explained that it needed to be cooked in clean pot with new water, it came out much quicker than the first time.  They assured me all was ok, but I got sick.  Won't go back there again eventhough I loved the texture of the pasta (i hate rice pasta) but I found out they use lentil bean pasta, so I will buy it on my own!)

I’ve been told the only “safe”

time to eat there is right when they open, that way you know you’ve got a

fresh pot of water.

Also, last time I checked, they don’t

advertise “gluten-free” pasta, they advertise “low gluten”

pasta. (Though that may have changed). Low gluten? What’s the point?

I guess we’ll just get “a little” sick instead of a lot. That’s

worth paying for.

Not.

The pasta is now (for about a year now I think) listed on the menu as gluten free. It's lentil bean based and it is gluten free. However, when I contacted corporate they said you would be advised to remind them to use new water to cook the pasta in. We have eaten at the one in San Mateo without issues.Perhaps a word to corporate about the 'indifferent' response is in order.Lillyth Denaghy Keogh-Quillan <lillythdenaghykeogh@...> wrote: I’ve been told the only “safe” time to eat there is right when they open, that way you know you’ve got a fresh pot of water. I wrote Pasta Pomodoro -- not, perhaps, the clearest possible letter, but I wrote. I'll let you know if I get a response.

I hope you'll send this information to Pasta Pomodoro headquarters.

They cook thier GF pasta in the same water as the wheat pasta, so it

is possible to get glutened eating the GF pasta. I have tried a few

times to get them to cook me pasta in clean water, but they won't do

it.
