Guest guest
Belatedly, I did a quick search on "food poisoning" (a very general term, I know). This is one entry I found, in e-medicine.com: "Symptoms of food poisoning depend on the type of contaminant and the amount eaten. The symptoms can develop rapidly, within 30 minutes, or slowly, worsening over days to weeks." Incidentally, the reason I went to the hospital when I felt nauseated was that I thought I might be having a heart attack. For women, the early symptoms of a heart attack may be very unlike those men have. Often, a woman thinks she has indigestion. Pain in the upper arm, back, jaw are common in women's heart attacks. H. Guest guest
FYI – regarding Café Gratitude…….I have not eaten there yet….but I thought I should mention A friend of mine ate lunch there on Friday with her friend. On the way home from lunch she felt sick to her stomach and by the time she got home she had to get sick. Her friend, that she had lunch with, called her that same night and asked if she felt sick since she also had gotten sick and thinks it is from the food. They intend to call the restaurant to warn them about their reactions. Sorry – I don’t know specifically all that they ordered, but I can find out if anyone needs to know. I think she said she had Mediterranean style foods -falafel and hummus etc. Granted that this is not me personally making a review, just what I have heard. I know some others in this group had commented that they did not feel good after eating there and were not sure if it was a GF issue or due to the ‘raw’ factor. Guest guest
This doesn't surprise me - I and several other people I know have gotten sick after eating there, but it's not from food poisoning or gluten, it's from the fact that all their food is raw. If you are not accustomed to eating a raw foods diet, you may experience the food acting like a scrub brush to your intestines, to put it lightly. Let's just say the first time I ate there I spent the whole evening on the toilet. I eat only desserts and their amazing juices there now for this reason. Raw veggies just don't sit well with me. I spoke to one of the waitresses there about the fact that my friend and I, plus several other friends we talked to, had gotten sick and she told me that usually when people start eating raw foods they should start very slowly, eating only small amounts. People whose bodies aren't used to all the roughage and insoluble (?) fiber often get sick at first. I also know that my doctor told me people with sensitive digestive systems (IBS, etc) shouldn't really eat raw vegetables... so I've taken her advice by trying to avoid eating more than a little at a time. I also think that their food is so full of nuts that you are eating a much higher proportion of nuts than most people eat in their diet - Nuts are a rich and fatty food, which can also be hard to digest in large quantities. Anyway, I hope if she reasonably suspects food poisoning she'll report it to the Department of Health so they can investigate and make sure the restaurant is using good hygiene practices in their kitchen! Just my 2 cents... Isaiah -- Gluten-Free By The Bayhttp://glutenfreebay.blogspot.com
Guest guest
I’ve eaten there three times (including yesterday), and never had any problem. I’ve never felt more energized than when I leave there! Don’t know what to say on the getting sick part, or even why raw foods would create a problem, but I’ve always had a great experience there. Guest guest
I guess this must be why I don’t have a problem there… My discovery of celiac came on the heels of a 21 day fast, and I could only eat raw foods right after… So it’s no wonder it sits so well with me… From: [mailto: ] On Behalf Of Isaiah Sent: Saturday, February 10, 2007 9:25 PM Subject: Re: [ ] Re: Fwd: Cafe Gratitude and gluten- a comment This doesn't surprise me - I and several other people I know have gotten sick after eating there, but it's not from food poisoning or gluten, it's from the fact that all their food is raw.
