We have rescheduled our April speaker for the June meeting. Deane Bussiere, Dominican Hospital's Executive Chef, will talk about the hospital's gluten free food policies and his efforts to better serve the celiac community. He will arrive at 12:30, so we will reverse our usual meeting schedule and have an early potluck brunch, concluding with the speaker. Please bring a gluten-free brunch item (and a list of ingredients or the recipe) to share (this is optional for those who are very ill or unfamiliar with the gluten-free diet). The meeting is open to all who are interested in this topic. For more information contact Pam. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------- MID-PENINSULA SUPPORT GROUP Contact: Amy Bhatnagar, amy.bhatnagar@..., 408-244-2403 Our next meeting will be Thursday, July 12 in Palo Alto at 7PM. The Marin Celiac Support Group met on Saturday, June 2nd. We shared our favorite gluten-free " Granola/Power " bars. Iscol, who leads the Sonoma Celiac Group, also attended and provided a wealth of information. Our groups plan to work together in the future. The next Marin Celiac Support Group meeting is scheduled to be held on Saturday, August 25 at 10AM again at Flour Chylde in Novato. We will be discussing a " North Bay Celiac " potluck party. We will not be meeting in July. Please contact if you are interested in joining our Marin group. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------- SONOMA SUPPORT GROUP Contact: Iscol, info@..., 707-824-5830 Update on North Bay Celiac Awareness Campaign North Bay Celiacs, the support group network for Sonoma, Marin and Napa, co-hosted a continuing education event for dietitians as part of its ongoing Celiac Disease Awareness Campaign. Twenty-two dietitians from Sonoma County received information and a resource packet, and were treated to a gluten-free tasting offered by North Bay Celiac volunteers! The dietitians were very attentive, enthusiastic and appreciative. Gail Prosser, a pediatric dietitian from Kaiser Santa co-presented the event with Iscol, leader of North Bay Celiacs, at Memorial Hospital in Santa . Prior to the event Sonoma County did not have any dietitians knowledgeable and updated on celiac disease. Gail Prosser learned much of what she needed to know to co-present in the month prior to this meeting. If you would like to organize a similar event in your community, we can help by sending you our Powerpoint slides (you don't need to know Powerpoint), a sample info packet, and give you some tips. On June 13th, physicians at Kaiser Napa will have a Celiac Update given by ine A. Mysliwiec, MD, MPH, of Kaiser Vallejo, and North Bay Celiacs will provide the gluten free goodies and resource packets. North Bay Celiacs raised over $3,000 from individuals and businesses in its spring fundraising drive for the celiac awareness campaign! Celiac support groups and organizations may be eligible for donated technology products. Go to www.TechSoup.org to learn about how TechSoup connects nonprofits and public libraries with donated and discounted technology products. Choose from over 240 products from companies such as Microsoft, Adobe, and Symantec. There are eligibility requirements. Our celiac support group, North Bay Celiacs, meets the eligibility requirements even though our affiliates, Celiac Sprue Research Foundation and Celiac Disease Foundation, do not. We were able to get excellent Adobe software for maintaining our website and more, for a small fraction of its market cost. Basically, TechSoup is looking for groups that have nonprofit status with the IRS (even if the status is through an affiliation with an ineligible organization), do not engage in advocacy, do not fund scientific research as a primary part of their mission, and provide direct benefit to the community. The website is packed with so much info it is a little difficult to navigate, but the folks at TechSoup are very helpful if you have questions: Tel: 415-633-9300 Email: info@....
