Guest guest
Hi All Thanks so much for your birthday cake suggestions. It's so nice to hear that there are several options out there! I will be in Palo Alto next weekend I heard a rumor that there is a restuarant/deli near the university that serves gluten-free sandwiches. Does anyone know the name/location of a place like this? And if not, can anyone suggest a place to eat that offers good GF options? Thanks in advance for your thoughts. This group has been so helpful to me since my diagnosis last year... We ordered a birthday cake for a party we were having and it was really well received. They're located right in the city too, so you won't have to go out of your way to pick it up ) Suki On 4/25/07, Tom <michellesf5589 > wrote: Hi All I'm turning 30 soon and my girlfriends and I are throwing a joint birthday celebration here in the city. I grew up on this cake in the mid-west and haven't had it for years. I'd appreicate your thoughts on your favorite tried and true bakery in the bay area. Guest guest
Hi , There is a coffee shop in Mountain View on Castro street that serves gluten free sandwiches. They're called " Spica " . It's about 20 minutes from Palo Alto, though. (If there is one closer I would be thrilled to hear about it- but I go to school there and haven't heard about it.)I blogged about it here: http://www.bookofyum.com/blog/?p=171 There is a Japanese style bakery, Satura, which offers one gluten free cake called Yuna that is on University Avenue in downtown Palo Alto. Being a bakery, there are CC issues to consider, but I have had it twice now without an obvious response. Here's the link to my post about it: http://www.bookofyum.com/blog/?p=200 There are also several Japanese, Thai, and Middle Eastern restaurants in downtown Palo Alto that are a good option. There is a (crummy, small) Whole Foods in Downtown Palo Alto as well, although it is a little far to walk. If you hop on the CalTrain (or drive), the California Avenue area has several things going for it- breakfast places (a little upscale), a GOOD but pricey health food store (California Sun), and a Molly Stone Grocery store right next to the station that has an excellent deli and some GF stuff. I like their deli and salad bar. Enjoy your trip! Best, Hi All > > I'm turning 30 soon and my girlfriends and I are throwing a joint birthday celebration here in the city.
