Guest guest
i have found just about everything consistently at the new Los Altos Whole Foods. When I was looking for chocolate cake, the clerk said they're trying to get Kapcakes, but don't have them yet. So I think they're on top of things. Don't know about Amy's macaroni or lasagne. I wasn't looking for those. --- ambercastro13 <ambercastro13@...> wrote: > Hello All, its my first post so sorry if I missed > this information. > I pretty much shop at Whole Foods Cupertino and > , and a > store in San that carries Gluten Free stuff. > I'm Gluten > intolerant, and have made myself pretty sick a few > times. Guest guest
Hi Amber, Sounds like you are looking for quick and easy GF meals. Here are some alternatives you might look for in the canned goods section: Shelton’s makes several different kinds of GF soup and chili. We like the Black Bean Chicken Chili, but they also have Tortilla Soup and other kinds of chili. Amy’s also makes canned soups that are GF (I like the lentil vegetable), but be sure to check the label as not all are GF. If you like spicy foods, a company called Tasty Bites makes boxed Indian food meals that you just heat and eat; there are many different kinds (not all are spicy), but our favorites are Jaipur Vegetables and Bengal Lentils. Some even come as complete meals with rice. Trader Joes is another good resource as they have a GF list. They have the best price on the Food for Life GF bread, and now carry the Food for Life Brown Rice Tortillas (under the Trader Joes brand name). I like their canned chicken, which I use in many different ways, sometimes topped with the Tasty Bites (Trader Joes has their own version of Tasty Bites). Or you can just use it to make a quick chicken salad. I also use TJ’s canned chicken with Mrs. Leepers Chicken Alfredo, a box mix which comes with the noodles and a seasoning packet, you add the milk and some water. They have Chicken Alfredo (my kids’ favorite), Lasagna Noodles, Hamburger mac and cheese, beef stroganoff, Tuna something, and a couple of others I’m not sure of; most take less than 20 minutes to cook, start to finish. I’m not sure where to find them on your side of the mountain; maybe someone over there can let you know who carries them. I get them at my local Nob Hill Grocery store. Thai Kitchen has many GF products (they are labeled GF) and can be found in most supermarkets. A newcomer to the GF frozen food selection is Organic Bistro, frozen organic meals that are complete with meat, veg, and carb, are organic, and sound really good (for more, see my previous post on 4/27). To find out where to find them in the bay area contact: Medical Marketing Coordinator Organic Bistro Whole Life Meals organicbistroinfo@... 480-664-8729 ext. 120 www.theorganicbistro.com Amy’s changed their supplier for GF macaroni and the mac and cheese have been missing for a couple of months; they are starting to appear back in the freezer now. Maybe that’s why you have had a hard time find them. If all else fails, keep some nuts or trail mix around (check out Trader Joe’s for these). Many kinds of Tortilla chips are GF and are available in many places (I like Garden of Eatin’ black bean chips). You could also lay in a supply of bars such as Lara bars or the Think bars (think green, ,think organic, think thin; not all are GF, so check the label). Maybe others could suggest their favorite GF food bars. Another suggestion: once you find a food you like, buy a several or a case all at once so you don’t have to shop as often. I know how hard it is to have little ones and find time to eat right…hope this helps! I pretty much shop at Whole Foods Cupertino and , and a store in San that carries Gluten Free stuff. I'm Gluten intolerant, and have made myself pretty sick a few times. Im trying to do better but these darn stores never keep this stuff in stock. Im a mom of two kids under 2, I dont really have time to shop every day at different stores to find what I need. I'm Breast Feeding and starving!! The Whole Foods in cupertino carries the baked stuff I like (bread and hamburger buns)and Amy's Pizzas (and Redbridge!!) but not the Amys Maccaroni and Lasagna. They say they wont be carrying it for a while since they are trying to switch to another location at the mid to end of Summer, yes I am excited about how big it will be, but come on!! The Whole Foods , is always out of everything, they just suck at keeping stuff stocked and you have to talk to each area manager to find out what the issue is with each item. And well the other store, which carries my much needed Gluten Free Pantry brownines, in San is just a pain to get to, and get around with two babies in, plus the woman wants to talk your ear off! Anybody know of anywhere else that carries all this stuff or should I just order online, shop at 10 different stores for what I need, and eat my cheese and corn toritillas quesadillas? Guest guest
Hi Amber, I know you! lol... You wanted to know where to find a good selection of gluten free stuff, right? Have you been to Harvest House? It's in Concord but they have an amazing selection of gluten free stuff- entire aisles. I was so confused by all the selection I just stood in the middle, dumbstruck. It is a bit far, is the only thing. http://www.harvesthouse.com/retailer/store_templates/shell_id_1.asp?storeID=SFBC\ 5UH5EES92J2100AKHMCCQSCXB8HB Another surprising option is Nob Hill- they have a store in Mountain View that has a great gluten free section, including Glutino " ritz like " crackers, vanilla and chocolate oreo-ish cookies, Mrs. Leepers GF meals, some Gluten Free Pantry and more. They might have other locations with good GF sections, if you can find some of their newer stores. Their prices are high, but if there is a sale you can get some decent deals. They have an ok selection of Amy's. And, New Leaf is an adorable GF friendly health food store in Saratoga- far I know, but I really enjoyed my trip there. I blogged about it here: http://www.bookofyum.com/blog/?p=210 The Whole Foods in Mountain View is new, very spacious, and has a good selection- no Redbridge though. They seem to do a decent job of keeping things in stock. Your best bet really may be to shop online, though. Have you checked out Amazon? If you shop through their grocery you can get free shipping, and prices are excellent, although you have to buy large amounts of things. If you haven't tried kinnikinnick, they have a good shipping policy and some pretty good products. Happy shopping! I hope you can find a way to simplify the process. I deal by ordering in bulk, online mostly, for flours, and picking up a few extra things here and there... *wave* good to see you! Sorry I couldn't make it yesterday... - > > Hello All, its my first post so sorry if I missed this information. > I pretty much shop at Whole Foods Cupertino and , and a > store in San that carries Gluten Free stuff.
