Hi Carla!

I want to go to the garlic festival too! I bet many people would be

interested in your list of GF items- perhaps you could post them?

Also, what day will you be there? We haven't decided what day to go yet...

Is anyone else planning on going to the garlic festival in Gilroy the

last weekend of this month?

I've been researching which vendors will be there and it appears there

will be quite a bit for us to eat!

I volunteer every year and usually eat in the hospitality booth, but

it's always nice to be able to wander around, eat some kettle corn and

even try garlic ice cream. This year I'm going to remember to bring my

own gf cone so I can share in that free experience!

So, if anyone is interested, I can share what I've found! Or maybe

someone would be interested in meeting up???

Yum, garlic.

Here we go...The Carla recommendations:

If you can, go Friday. This is basically the day for locals only.

Parking is easy, the food is fresh and hot, you can find shade or a

place to sit down. The only downside is that the big name bands play

on Saturday and Sunday, it seems.

As for the important stuff aka FOOD:

This is my little roundup:

In gourmet alley, I ask for the pepper steak minus the sandwich part.

The stuffed mushrooms last year did not contain bread crumbs, and I

cannot confirm they will not again this year, so I will be sure to ask

there or get a hold of someone who is cooking beforehand to confirm.

The scampi has been amazing every year and I will be absolutely sure

to get a serving again this year. Oh, I THINK they might include

garlic bread, so of course ask for a fresh serving - not just have

someone pull the bread off.

I've worked gourmet alley for years and have done my best to teach

everyone about celiac, so most people are well versed.

It's a Grind will be doing blended mochas - totally safe.

Twin Berry farms does amazing chocolate dipped berries. Yum.

Thai Stick - can't confirm

Sweet Delights has roasted garlic potato chips, and garlic salmon over

rice. I don't know about their spanish garlic shrimp.

Gilroy Foundation does an amazing sangria, which is a nice cool down

after a hard volunteer shift.

Hawaii BBQ has not confirmed if their kebobs are GF, so I am going to

stay on the safe side and stay away.

Lyman's does shakes and root beer floats. I usually get at least one

float because they are that good.

And Famous Dave's will be BBQing this year. We all know about how

wonderfully GF their products can be!

I'm not a guacamole fan, but Holy Guaca-Moly confirmed it's GF status

to a fellow celiac last year.

Thai Cuisine is gluten central based on their menu.

Red Brick Pizza is the same - gluten central.

Sandy Vessel is another to stay away from.

Crispy Crepes is selling nachos again which is a great thing because I

love nachos.

Old Thyme Kettle Korn is always GF and they are very knowledgeable. I

usually buy a huge bag of their garlic flavoured popcorn and half of

it is somehow gone by the end of my volunteer shift.

And like I said, if you want to try garlic flavoured ice cream either

save a tray from one of your previous culinary delights (I've only

ever seen them give away this odd mix on a mini cone) or bring a

gluten free cone. (If you forget one, I'll try my best to bring a

whole box!)

I'm working at the free garlic braiding area on Friday and Saturday.

Please stop by and see me and I'll hook you up with tickets! Otherwise

they are usually gone by mid morning as we can only teach a certain

amount of people within the course of a day. I'm the one with the

crazy curly hair.

OH! And don't forget a hat and sunscreen.

If you or your family are planning on spending some time at the Garlic

Festival and might be interested in meeting up, message me and I'll

send you my mobile. I'd love at least be able to say hi and put a face

with the name!

Wow, this ended up being longer than planned!

Gluten Free Mall has the best deal I've found. 24 cones for about $9.00.
