Guest guest
Hi Kathleen You don't say much about your dizziness - more info??, what situations does it happen in etc etc, - but I am wondering if it occurs with change in position of the body (ie standing up) whether it could be orthostatic hypotension. I have that and if I go from sitting to standing I feel very dizzy. The worst is in book stores - sounds silly I know, but I've bent down to look at a book on the bottom shelf and then stand up quickly and feel like I'm going to fall over. It is all to do with low blood pressure and the body not adapting fast enough to the changes in posture with a result that your blood pressure drops and you feel dizzy. In addition to changes in posture, blood pressure can also be lowered by food, hot weather/hot shower, hyperventilation and heavy lifting. Certain foods and some drinks do make me dizzy - but they aren't celiac troublesome foods. I haven't done anything " medical " about it personally, but am just careful and get up slowly (especially in the middle of the night, from lying in bed) and make sure I drink loads of water in the hot weather and things like that. Sounds like your problem is causing more difficulty than mine - and I'll be interested to hear if acupuncture works. In the meantime, drinking lots of water really does seem to help me and if it's orthostatic hypo, they also suggest increasing your salt intake!!!. To test for OT, the doctors measure your blood pressure when lying down and then again when you stand and if it drops a certain amount, then that pretty much shows OT. Pretty simple. While it is something you can check yourself, obviously I'd suggest you explore this with some type of health professional too. Not sure if this is any help but this is what I have found for me. The food part made me want to link it to celiac - but my explorations mean I know now that it isn't. But maybe your dizziness is different. Just food for thought... Good luck - both with the GF diet and dizziness Ruth
