Clanthompson.com has a similar for-fee drug list. I used it the first year I went GF.

Most caramel color for products made in the U.S. is sourced from corn

syrup I believe, not all however. One exception I found out the hard

way is Hornsby's Dry Cider. Welcome to the GF world! It has resulted

in some divine creations though I must say. Try Crave brownies for

one...

I am so glad this came up because I have been avoiding all caramel color and am so happy that I can drink diet coke again. I re-read where I originally learned about this which is in "The Gluten-Free Bible" by Jax s Lowell and it states that "In the U.S. and Canada caramel coloring is the dark brown liquid that results from heating dextrose, invert sugar (a mixture of dextrose and levulose found in fruits or that is produced artificially by the process of inversion), lactose, molasses, or sucrose from beet or sugarcane. This ingredient should always be questioned as it may be made from malt syrup or wheat. When in doubt, consider the country of origin and contact the company for specifics." I learned that the pumpkin spice latte flavoring now in Starbucks does have Caramel Coloring but now I will contact them to see if it is made in the U.S. or Canada and gluten-free. I would say the number one reason I

had to put a product back was do to caramel coloring so now I know it may be safe! Thanks!!!!Naren Wadhwani <narenw@...> wrote: Most caramel color for products made in the U.S. is sourced from cornsyrup I believe, not all however. What flavor Altoid contained wheat? I don't think the plain one does. However, if one flavor contains wheat, then the non-wheat flavors probably are processed on the same equipment. Probably. Darn.

So now I'm confused. We think but aren't sure that caramel color is

bad. But why were people thinking Diet was ok? It seems that anything

not Sprite, etc would have caramel color to make it brown...?

Caramel color is not bad. SOME caramel color is bad. It can be derived from various sources. The caramel color used in Coke and Pepsi are gluten-free.IsaiahOn 9/10/07,

I'm not sure about carmel color in general, but according to the Coke website, all their products are gluten free. To confirm, you can go to http://www.thecoca-colacompany.com/contactus/index.html

, then click on the " Ask coca-cola " link, and type in gluten free. Admittedly, they qualify their gluten free statement with the following: " all of our other products meet Codex's definition of gluten-free, which

is currently less than 200 ppm (parts per million) (0.02%) " . This may or may not be acceptable to some people.Pepsi states that most of their products are wheat free in this chart:

http://www.pepsiproductfacts.com/allergens.php#chart. Please note they say wheat free, not gluten free, but I've always felt fine after drinking their products.

The Wrigley site I found seems to imply that regular Altoids now aren't GF.

I hate that! I can’t tell you

how many times I put back a bottle of something (mustard, salad dressing) with

a disgusted “Who the fuck puts wheat in MUSTARD!?!”. (I tend

to be very, “colorful” with my language) ;-)

LOL! My favorite is when you pick up a box that has "wheat free!" printed in big bold letters, and then you see barley heartlessly printed right there in the ingredients list.-- Joe http://sanbeiji.comOn Sep 10, 2007, at 7:36 PM, "Lillyth Denaghy Keogh-Quillan" <lillythdenaghykeogh@...> wrote:
