Guest guest
I don't know if there is any way to avoid the illness. I've wondered if making oneself vomit immediately would help. I don't know. My doctor suggested Pedialyte to offset the water loss and electrolyte imbalance that can come from vomiting and diarrhea. Gatorade has so much sugar that it can be hard to get down when one is feeling ill. H. In a message dated 9/20/07 9:52:19 PM, steph@... writes: Would activated charcoal help? Guest guest
DRINK A LOT OF WATER!!!!! Sorry I don’t have anything more helpful, but I found that while any food turns straight to liquid – if you know what I mean – my system tolerated water very well. Plus, if you think about it, any time you get poisioned, you need a ton of water. Oh, and sleep as much of it off as you can… Sorry you got glutened – such a bummer… From: [mailto: ] On Behalf Of skershaw_sanjose Sent: Thursday, September 20, 2007 6:48 PM Subject: [ ] help- ate wheat and feel awful, any relief? Guest guest
I have found that yes, vomiting DOES help, as long as it is done right away – or as close to that as you can manage. Once the food is digested, there’s no point. TIP: use the handle of your toothbrush to gag yourself, rather than you finger – it scars your uvula less than a finger (with a fingernail). Plus it’s a bit more comfy & less, err… gross than getting the vomit all over your hand. From: [mailto: ] On Behalf Of flatcat9@... Guest guest
Thanks for all the advice. It was too late for vomiting, although you're right, gross as it is, that has helped in the past. Water is helping, and lots of hot herbal tea, although today I am so tired I just want to sleep. It took me such a long time to realize that gluten was why I was so tired all the time, it's unbelievable to think I existed like this for so long! Oh, a question, too. When I was in Germany this summer (where you can get yummy gluten-free foods in every supermarket), I fell in love with the Glutano crisprolls. Has anyone seen them anywhere? Not even glutenfreemall.com sell them, only the Glutano bread, which I can recommend to anyone by the way, as well as their gluten free Kit Kat bars! Oh, and does anyone have a good pizza crust recipe? I haven't found anything prepared I've been impressed with. Guest guest
I've found that drinking carbonated water or a soft drink or two (i usually drink ginger ale) makes me feel a bit better until the horrible cramps subside. Guest guest
Whenever we get stomach or digestive upset from gluten or other problems from food poisoning to flu, we use bromelain, a digestive enzyme made from pineapple. This generally gives a good deal of relief, and often resolves the problem in short order, at least with our family. I have yet to test it with a major gluten poisoning episode (haven’t had one since we started using it). There have been several “I don’t feel good; maybe I got gluten” experiences where the bromelain helped. It’s easily available and not expensive, so I always have it on hand. Sorry this is too late for you Steph; but if your stomach is still unsettled, give the bromelain a try. Anyone else have any experience with Bromelain and direct gluten-poisoning? Guest guest
one effective way to get it is to juice the core of a pineapple, which is the most bromelain-rich part of the fruit. you can't digest the solid matter of the core, but juicing it will give you quite a dose!On Sep 22, 2007, at 11:06 AM, Pratt wrote:Pam,Where do you get bromelain, and does it only help with vomiting, orwith diarrhea as well? Thanks,> Whenever we get stomach or digestive upset from gluten or other problems> from food poisoning to flu, we use bromelain, a digestive enzyme made from> pineapple. Guest guest
Direct from the pineapple is one way, but I just do it the easy way and pick up a bottle at any health food store or even Longs or other drug store. I buy Now Foods brand (says gluten/wheat free right on the bottle); I don’t remember the cost, but it isn’t expensive. I think it does help with both vomiting and diarrhea relief. I shove the bottle at them the instant they mention a sick stomach or we suspect gluten exposure, so it’s hard to know how sick they would have become if they hadn’t taken it. It always seems that whatever upset they had gets better fast when they take bromelain. Pam From: [mailto: ] On Behalf Of J. Guest guest
I keep a bottle of these around as well, and take them for many meals. not only do they aid digestion and lessen heartburn, but if there was gluten in a meal, it tends to me less of a severe reaction:http://www.vitacost.com/EnzymedicaDigestI've also used them post-glutening with some success, along with a good probiotic like jarrow. btw, vitacost rules for getting supplements for cheap. I take really expensive vitamins (new chapter) and they're something like 40% off every day.On Sep 22, 2007, at 3:40 PM, Pam Newbury wrote:Direct from the pineapple is one way, but I just do it the easy way and pick up a bottle at any health food store or even Longs or other drug store.
