Thanks! > Amy in Sunnyvale > I had the luck of scoring a cheap business class ticket SFO-SYD on united this past December. The meals were definitely 100% gluten free. Quality of the food was much below that of what I would have gotten as a non celiac traveller despite there being many items on the regular menu which were extremely unlikely to have gluten. For example - normal appetizer on the SFO-SYD flight was steamed shrimp on proscioutto (!) - my special app was a salad with dressing. My sense was that the meal was a repackage of a " heart healthy " meal as everything was steamed with very little if any sauces or accompanyment. I am very certain there was little chance of any accidental gluten in any of the meals I had, though I am not a celiac who is concerned with gluten in the air etc... I probably wont travel business class again, but if I did, I would probably opt out of the special meal as there were options on the normal menu which were extremely likely to be gluten free. Of course your mileage may vary.
Guest guest
I flew United from Washington DC to Tokoy last March and had a gluten free meal that I remember being good - though I don't remember off hand what it was that they gave to me. most of the soy sauce in Japan isn't made from wheat as it is here, but since we don't read Japanese we didn't risk it and I took these "to-go" packets with me: http://www.minimus.biz/detail.aspx?ID=7667 (other places online sell them, but these are by far the cheapest). Guest guest
Actually, pretty much all of the soy sauce in Japan is made from/ contains wheat. I lived there for two years and read the label of pretty much every soy sauce/tamari known to man, with no success. (I read Japanese) Taking your own soy sauce is a great idea. I think when I ordered from minimus before i MAY have gotten the wrong variety of soy sauce- the box that arrived didn't have a gluten-free or wheat free label anyway, so you may want to check with them before ordering. - -- In , Phyllis Kaplan <pschwartz99@...> wrote: > > I flew United from Washington DC to Tokoy last March and had a gluten free meal that I remember being good - though I don't remember off hand what it was that they gave to me. > > most of the soy sauce in Japan isn't made from wheat as it is here, but since we don't read Japanese we didn't risk it and I took these " to-go " packets with me: > http://www.minimus.biz/detail.aspx?ID=7667 > (other places online sell them, but these are by far the cheapest). > > > > > > > Amy Bhatnagar <amy.bhatnagar@...> wrote: > Has anyone traveled on United Airlines recently and had good/bad > experiences with their gluten free meals?
