Any Italian Restaurants - City to SSF area -- to recommend?

We're looking for a " safe " Italian restaurant (preferably), or other

non-large chain places to go to dinner Sunday night, out in the Avenues

in San Francisco or the upper Peninsula, north of Burlingame. Not

Mexican or Asian food.

Any recommendations?
