Guest guest
I’ve never had New Grist before, which is why I so excitedly posted the find to the group. But now that I learn it is sweet & that you like Bard’s Tale better, it sounds like I might just want to stick with Bard’s. (I haven’t tried the New Grist yet, I had surgery last week, and beer and pain killers don’t mix – at least not for me). Nonetheless, I still look forward to trying it… From: [mailto: ] On Behalf Of julie_mueller Sent: Tuesday, January 29, 2008 12:18 PM Subject: [ ] Re: New Grist BevMo has Bard's Tale Dragon's Gold. I used to be a New Grist drinker, but now that's it's available have been converted to Bard's Tale. It's much more like real beer and not so sweet as New Grist. http://www.bevmo.com They seem to be the only store in the area that carry Bard's Tale, judging from the Bard's Tale website. Guest guest
I've tried all three and I've found Redbridge to be the least expensive, best tasting and more readily available of the three. I live in s Valley and have found it at s Valley Market, U-Save liquors as well as Felton New Leaf. Bard's Tale isn't half bad either. A little darker and I agree, with a slightly bitter aftertaste. I think that's common with all sorghum based beers, but redbridge seems to hide it better than the other two. I didn't like New Grist at all, it reminded me of the old bitter beer face commercials. In the long run, I'm just excited to have three options. A year or two ago, I was struggling without my two beers a night. That was probably what I missed the most.seamaiden399 <seamaiden399@...> wrote: I strongly disliked Bard's Tale because of the bitter aftertaste. Ifyou haven't tried Redbridge I recommend it. Guest guest
I'm in Danville too - have not seen local distribution of New Grist, but like you have found plenty of Redbridge (Draeger's, Whole Foods) and Bard's Tale (BevMo). Bard's Tale isn't too bad, but Redbridge is far better in my opinion. That is the only one I buy anymore. Also used to see Ramapo Valley Honey Beer at Whole Foods, but that one tastes way too sweet for me. -Joe-- Joe http://sanbeiji.com/On Jan 30, 2008 10:24 PM, tanyanlombardi <tanya_lombardi@...> wrote: I'm out in Danville, and I find Red Bridge at BevMo, Draegers, and Lucky's (of all places). Guest guest
Does anyone know where to get New Grist in Berkeley? I'd like to try it. FYI Elephant pharmacy and Adronico's (on N. Shattuck) also carry RedBridge (which is made by the Budweiser company, if anyone cares). I've wondered why RedBridge doesn't actually state anywhere on the bottle that they are gluten-free -- isn't that the whole point? Are they worried about CC and getting sued? Makes me wonder how committed they are to the GF thing (although I haven't gotten sick from it yet AFAIK). -Luther On Jan 31, 2008 10:05 AM, Joe <joelewis@...> wrote: I'm in Danville too - have not seen local distribution of New Grist, but like you have found plenty of Redbridge (Draeger's, Whole Foods) and Bard's Tale (BevMo). Guest guest
The bitter taste is what I love the best. It tastes most like “real beer”. I was a Guinness and micro brew drinker back in the day. The first time I had Bard’s I was IN LOVE. I even went to bed without brushing my teeth to savor the bitter aftertaste that much longer… Yuuuuuuuuuummmmmmmmmmmmm… From: [mailto: ] On Behalf Of Christian Sent: Thursday, January 31, 2008 8:48 AM Subject: Re: [ ] Re: New Grist I've tried all three and I've found Redbridge to be the least expensive, best tasting and more readily available of the three. Guest guest
I think it may be to not scare off non CD folk. WE all know its GF. Other, non CD folks don’t, so they might try it. Funny though, I’ve heard from one of the BevMo people that there are people who know Bard’s Tale is GF, yet prefer it as their beer of choice even though they do not have CD… At first I was mad, because they kept running out, but now that it seems ya’ll like Redbridge better (though for the life of me I can’t figure out why), I guess I’m glad they are buying it up, because it looks like you guys aren’t, and I want Bard’s Tale to stay in business! ;-) From: [mailto: ] On Behalf Of Luther Sent: Thursday, January 31, 2008 10:15 AM Subject: Re: [ ] Re: New Grist Does anyone know where to get New Grist in Berkeley? Guest guest
I agree - Redbridge is the closest thing to the real deal. However, I would happily pay $20 a glass for the ability to sit down and order a nice hoppy pint of draught microbrewed northwest-style IPA again. If some local Bay Area brewpub could coin that recipe in gluten-free terms, I think they'd see me there every Saturday... ;-) -JoeOn Feb 1, 2008 12:55 PM, Lillyth Denaghy Keogh-Quillan <lillythdenaghykeogh@...> wrote: The bitter taste is what I love the best. Guest guest
I think Redbridge is my fave of the options, but Bard's Tale is a little less sweet than the New Grist. Plus it has a cool label. LOLNone of the beer has a very high alcohol content, so there's not much to them. Redbridge is also kind of heavy for the warm weather, in my humble opinion. I'm waiting for Corona to come out with a gf option. I figure they'll want to woo me back since they've got to be losing so muchmoney since I've gone gf.
