Guest guest
Great work, Sue! -----Original Message----- From: on behalf of Hersom Sent: Thu 1/31/2008 6:46 AM Subject: [ ] Armadillo Willy's I think I might have some great news regarding this restaurant! I e-mailed both the founder and president of Armadillo Willy's asking them if they had any gluten-free items on their menu and explained how much my family and other celiacs would love to be able to eat at their restaurant. The founder of the restaurant e-mailed me back that he checked out gluten on the internet, and it was a bit more complicated than he thought. He also said that he would investigate it more and contact his vendors and asked me to send him more information. I e-mailed him explaining the issues of cross-contamination, hidden gluten, and wheat in soy sauce if soy sauce is one of the ingredients in their barbecue sauce, etc. I attached GIG's Gluten- Free Restaurant Awareness Program brochure and told him that other restaurants like Outback are members of this program. I also gave him names of other restaurants who have gluten-free items listed on their websites or have gluten-free menus. I could not believe it when he e-mailed me back saying he was going to contact the Gluten- Free Restaurant Awareness Program for further information! I also said that some of his menu items might already be gluten-free and maybe some of the other menu items' ingredients could be modified slightly in order to become gluten-free. I told him that it is not simple to do, but it cannot be that complicated either! This would be great if he follows through and becomes a member of the GFRAP! I will keep you updated. Guest guest
Is there an email address for him that we can email him thanking him for looking into this? Guest guest
I e-mailed both the president and the founder of Armadillo Willy's. It was the founder, Berwald, who responded so warmly to me. The president's name is Bob Deagen. Their e-mail addresses are: jberwald@... bdeagen@... I emphasized to both of them that celiacs do not dine alone. Since celiacs' families and friends only eat at places where the celiac can eat, their patronage would definitely increase. Guest guest
I just saw my post and noticed that the rest of the e-mail addresses to the president and founder did not display (?). Just add armadillowillys.com at the end of their e-mail addresses. Guest guest
Thanks Sue! Just a few days ago I was thinking of going to Willys and looked through their site and googled them + gluten but couldn't find anything - so we went to PF Changs. I so hope they'll at least be able to provide us a list of safe foods. And if they can go beyond that I will be a regular customer :-). I love their fries - I hope someday they'll fry them in thier own oil (I'd need to up my workouts to make up for the fries though!). I saw they have other fried things on the menu so I just assumed the fries are off limits. Jean
Guest guest
Where is this restaurant? I've never heard of it before? What kind of food is it? Thanks!
