Ace Hard Cider, in apple, pear, and perhaps other fruits, is made in Sebastopol. It's quite lovely -- I use the apple version to finish pork tenderloin roasts. And it's quite alcoholic. I don't remember the alcoholic content, but it's not insubstantial.

Ace has a pub and market on the west side of Gravenstein Highway just north of Sebastopol. I drive past it very often, leaving San Francisco for Sea Ranch, where I spend most of my time. I always want to stop and check it out, but the schedule never fits such a stop. Nor does drinking and driving fit my plans!

There's also Hard Core Cider, which has a pub just south of Sebastopol on the west side of the highway. I'm pretty sure I have the name right. A quick Google showed an article saying Hard Core Cider is produced by Boston Beer. That doesn't sound right. I didn't find a website, and I don't know whether it's GF.

I love cider, but not Ace as they put hops

in it and I just don’t like hops.  But I think Wyder’s uses barley based

caramel color – anyone know?

Are you sure Ace puts hops in their cider? Their web page doesn't say

anything about hops and I'm pretty sure it's just local apples...

it says:

Ace Apple, CCC's flagship brand, is made with 100% pure, local apple juice

Ace Apple Honey is made with 5% Sonoma wildflower honey and 95% pure

Sonoma County apple juice.

Ace Berry is a mixture of raspberry, blackberry and strawberry juice

added into our fermented apple cider. (http://www.acecider.com/)

I think their regular apple is DELICIOUS and I love it. Tastes simply

like sweet, alcoholic apples. They also have pear and berry which I

don't care for, because they are too sweet for my taste. :)

Regardless, it's gluten free and we enjoy going there sometimes, even

though it's a bit of a drive.

I drink only Wyders, Ace is far too sweet for me. Better yet, Wyders

has a press release stating that their products have been tested and

are gluten-free. Though they disclaim it as a certification due to

their processing plant setup. Here's the link:
