I often go to Meza, in the SF Marina District on Chestnut St. near Divisadero. The menu isn't GF, but they have many GF items, and the staff is attentive to GF needs. It's white-table-cloth Greek food. They encourage people to order family-style -- that is, to share dishes.

Others have recommended Aix, just off Chestnut St. in the Marina. Again, no GF menu, but attentive staff. I enjoyed it, but I haven't been there lately, myself. They have outdoor seating as well as indoor.

Congratulations.

My hubby and I will be celebrating our 2 year anniversary next month & we are looking for a nice place to go out to dinner.  I need GF (obviously) and Dairy Free food as well.

As close to (or preferably in) SF as possible.  I recall a lot of restaurants having been listed that are normally out of our price range, so I just ignored them.  Oh, and I can’t have shrimp, either.

Thanks!

Sorry -- it is Mezes, at 2373 Chestnut St. When you make your reservation, specify you want to eat downstairs. Upstairs has more tables, so that's where you'll go if you don't tell them your preference.

Aix and A16 are not the same. I'd never thought of the similarity in names. A16 is extremely fashionable, rather hectic and loud. Aix (as in Aix-en-Provence) is much more easy-going, not chic, just a very pleasant place to eat dinner or lunch, or at least it was when i was last in.

Stay away from Dragonwell on Chestnut, unless it's changed it's menu and practices drastically. It's a lovely Chinese restaurant with an emphasis on very healthful food. Unfortunately, all their dishes are (or were) prepped with non-GF soy sauce, and the best they can do is make you a special meal of steamed vegetables with rice. Again, this could have changed since I last went there. Before I found out about the soy sauce problem, I ate there often.

Meza?  I googled and citysearched it & couldn’t find anything – can you give me more info?

Also is Aix the same thing as A16, or are they different?

Thanks for the info!
