Guest guest
I like that idea of the red plates too. I love PF Chang's. I was impressed with the gf menu choices they offered, and he mixed up my own wrap sauce with gf soy sauce. We had a bad experience last time we were there, though when it took an hour and a half to get our meal. They blamed it on needing to do the special gf food, even though I'dtold them of it when I made the reservation. That was really frustrating. They did a good job of apologizing, but I would rather have eaten! It won't keep me from going back though. I like the effort they've put into doing a gf menu.On Jan 13, 2008 4:23 AM, food4maia < maiaalpern@...> wrote: Yesterday I had a great lunch with friends at PF Chang's in Emeryville. He also told me that they will soon have the gluten free menu in a sleeve that is part of the regular menu and that it will have about 4 times the choices compared to the current GF menu. Later the server asked me questions about celiac and in the course of the conversation he shared that they plate the ingredients for GF meals on red plates to alert the chefs that the dish needs special allergy attention. What a great idea! This doesn't mean that mistakes can't happen - especially when the kitchen is very busy - but it is a very visible warning to the chefs to take a minute to pay special attention to that order. How cool! Maia
Guest guest
My wife (who is GF) and I had dinner a few days ago at the PF Chang's in Las Vegas. They had plastic-encased menus, but we did not see anything beyond the current menu. The server, Meghan, was well aware of the GF requirements, told us that the hot sauce and mustard were GF, and thoughtfully replaced the soy with a wheat-free soy. I hope all PF Chang servers are thoughtful as Meghan and Mike. Guest guest
Sorry you had to wait so long. They were probably very busy and maybe goofed and had to redo your order but didn't tell you. That happened with my lamb dish and the restaurant was practically empty. The chef accidently used the regular hoisin sauce but it never came out of the kitchen. They just came out with the beef dish and explained that they had to remake the lamb dish for me. I think any time we are asking for something special we are taking more chances because kitchens are such busy places that things are often " done on auto pilot " . Just glad they use the red plates to help them notice changes and catch their errors. I am looking forward to the new expanded gf menu when it comes out in a few months.
