Guest guest
Hi Dorthy, I was diagnosed at three with Celiac myself. I know it's hard, but he will get better with time. *hugs* It can only get better after diagnosis... that is the most important part! Don't be sad- in many ways I think it is easier to grow up with Celiac than be suddenly diagnosed later in life when you're used to certain products and tastes. We have a group that meets in the Sunnyvale/Mountain View area, if you're interested. Many mothers attend. I posted about our meeting here: http://www.bookofyum.com/blog/?p=1134 As you can see, we're a fairly food-centric group, but people have all kinds of information. You will also find good info at the Sillyyaks group. I'm a member and we share a lot of good information and recipes, product and restaurant reviews. I know it's stressful, but things will improve, and there are so many more resources now than there used to be. Just ask if you have any specific questions, and we will do our best to help. You're not alone! - > > Hi, I just found out 2 days ago that my 3 year old son has Celiac. > Does anyone know of a local support group that deals with kids? We > live in Santa Clara. Guest guest
Welcome, Dorothy! My daughter Molly was diagnosed with celiac disease when she was 20 months old. She's now 17 and a well-adjusted celiac. We have a Bay Area ROCK (Raising Our Celiac Kids) group, but it's more of a virtual support group than a physical support group.I'm out of town now, but if you send me an email to my home address (below), I can send you the info on joining it (in case you haven't already found it). Good luck, and hang in there. I was depressed for a year at the sight of all the foods Molly couldn't have, but it's *so* much better now. And your son will feel *so* much better on the diet, too. Molly's personality changed (for the better!) in a week. Debbiedebbie@...On 10/19/07, seamaiden399 < seamaiden399@...> wrote: Hi Dorthy, I was diagnosed at three with Celiac myself. Guest guest
Hi Dorothy, My son was 2 1/2 years when he got diagnosed - he is turning 11 tomorrow. I completely understand what you are going through. If you would like, we could meet at my house and then go to Whole Foods Market together, to look at what is available there. Please send me an e-mail : tennissusi2005@... There is also a Bay Area Rock group that you can join. The person to contact is Kelley Velez. (kelleyvelez@...). It is hard to believe, but you are very fortunate to find out at such an early age. The later you find out, the harder the transition to gluten free gets. Hope to hear from you soon.
