Yes, actually this is not uncommon.  It

seems to have gotten better for me the longer I have been GF and casein free.

I still need to watch my eronomics at the computer.

Over thepast several months I've been experiencing

tingling and slight

numbness in my fingers and toes. Curious if any of the other Celiac

members have experienced the same sensation. Not sure if its possibly

nerve damage due to the extreme anemia I had prior to be diagnosed w/

CD, or what?!

Happy Celic Diseas Month.

Yes, I experience this too - usually towards the end of a "flare" - I seem to get an autoimmune type flare if I take gluten for several days without realizing it (e.g. substituted pharmaceutical that i didn't catch)

I used to experience tingling in my hands and arms, but once on a GF diet, that stopped. What has continued, though much less frequently than before, is severe leg cramps at night that wake me up. I assume when I get them that I'd unknowingly eaten something with gluten. Any other leg crampers out there? Sharon Wood

Cramps and pains, and btw my G.I and an Endocrinologist

found out I had a calcium issue – my body wasn’t absorbing it so it was pulling

from my bones making my levels extremely high. I went on prescription Vitamin

D to jump start absorption along with tums for calcium and the aches went away

and levels have been down (it’s been almost a year since ive gone through this)

Hi Kathleen,

I've also experienced this and still do sometimes. But, I do know of

two things that can contribute to it. One is a B12 deficiency and the

other is hypothyroidism. I would definitely recommend getting checked

for these problems or at least research the symptoms to see if they

seem to fit. I have both of these problems. And, the tingling has

defininitely lessoned after being treated.

In some cases this may be caused by peripheral neuropathy, which

is damage to the peripheral nerves, which is a disease that can be associated

with celiac disease. While the diet may help with the symptoms and halt

further deterioration, the exact link is not well understood. In severe

cases medication can be used to control pain. For a detailed look at the

relationship see the following article:

http://www.enabling.org/ia/celiac/doc/news0302%20latov%20article.pdf

More information can be found by searching on “peripheral

neuropathy” or “peripheral neuropathy celiac”
