Guest guest
Generally, more expensive restaurants are more responsive to accommodating special needs. However, the Danko restaurant does have a reputation for "attitude" -- not toward CD, just toward customers in general. I haven't kept up with them, and they may have taken a better stance toward their public. When my husband used to go with a business group, they were well received. I ate there only a couple of times, and that was long ago. I'd suggest making that you make a reservation well in advance, confirm it, and then call to tell them, firmly, that you will need to eat gluten-free. Any restaurant that serves freshly made food can come up with a good meal for you. Go, and enjoy your great good fortune in having a gift certificate for what's said to be great food! Hey, if you don't want it, I'll take it in a split-second! H. I've been so fortunate to go on many work lunches and dinners at many fabulous downtown SF restaurants -- so if you have the option to, or want to splurge one evening, here are my favorite restaurants: Slanted Door, Boulevard, Roy's, Atrium, Perbacco's, Danko's, Cosmopolitan... and that's all I can think of at the moment. I'm sure many of you are on the dinner list too - I haven't made it to any dinners yet, but I hope to at some point to meet everybody. Guest guest
Dont let the menu posted online throw you off. Any high quality restaurant can and will modify its menu to make it gluten free - just call ahead. I've eaten at Danko; they were extremely accomodating, and were very knowledgeable about what would work and what wouldnt. -Joe -----Original Message----- From: Pratt Sent: Jan 11, 2008 9:26 AM Subject: Re: [ ] Hi, I'm Lucy Lucy, that's so funny that you mentioned Danko's...I'd never heard of it, and my parents gave us a gift certificate for there. Guest guest
The portions are tiny and elaborate, but the food is delicious. I had no problem eating GF there-- the chef came up with all sorts of interesting and delicious substitutions for me even though I hadn't called to let them know about my diet in advance. (That said, call ahead. I'm sure you will get even better options that way.) -----Original Message----- From: on behalf of flatcat9@... Guest guest
When my husband and I went there for our anniversary, they were SO accommodating. I have multiple food allergies and sensitivities. I told them (well in advance & in writing - via email) about them. I can (on occasion) tolerate a wee bit of dairy, and when I wanted to " splurge " a little on one of the crème sauces, the waiter gave me less than I asked for because he didn't want me to get too sick. They checked every ingredient, and seemed to take my food issues as seriously, if not moreso than I did. They were kind, and gracious, eager to please. I cannot imagine " attitude " from them... -----Original Message----- From: Palmer, [mailto: ] On Behalf Of Palmer, Sent: Friday, January 11, 2008 1:55 PM Subject: RE: [ ] Hi, I'm Lucy The portions are tiny and elaborate, but the food is delicious. Guest guest
I'm glad to hear about your good experience at Danko. The "attitude" they once were criticized for -- quite notably in the newspapers -- was not with the wait staff and the chef, but with the reservations process. Once upon a time, they were said to handle reservations quite poorly, in an undemocratic and unreliable way. I would have been very surprised if they kept up this unfortunate practise. I wouldn't hesitate a moment to go there now. I've gotten out of the habit of that sort of eating out, but Danko would be a top choice if I still did. I hear only good things these days. But -- maybe I'd reconfirm my reservation the day before, just in case. H.
