That

brings up a good point about dairy. I do get clogged up when I drink

pasteurized dairy. Lately, I’ve been trying raw dairy products, enzymes

intact, and I do not have the same congestion following ingestion as pasteurized.

I’ve been buying it at Whole Foods, the Organic Pastures brand. Also, raw

cheeses are also available.

Subject: [ ] sinus

I've had terrible sinus problem since I was in my

20's. Since I went dairy free, it hardly ever bothers

me anymore. Only when I get a cold, pretty much. But

I had to go completely off dairy. Cutting down didn't

help. If I get even a little, the sinus pain starts

right up again, and usually leads to infection. I am

actually much more vigilant about trace amounts of

dairy than I am about trace amounts of gluten.

interesting on raw dairy products - I will have to challenge myself

w/ some and see what happens. I am currently dairy lite (milk and

cream gave me gastro issues when I challenged them, hard cheeses ok).

My nutritionist wants me 100% off dairy for now but I'm having a hard

time staying away from the hard cheeses, especially since they do not

appear to be bothering me.

I too had a chronic sinus problem for at least 15 years. Every

morning I awoke w/ a stuffed up/runny nose and every time the climate

changed, flowers bloomed, someone came into the office w/ a cold, I

was congested and in the case of the colds, caught it immediately.

Many times I'd end up w/ antibiotics because the infection would not

clear.

Since going gluten free and nearly dairy free (except for hard

cheeses) I have yet to catch a single cold (it's been 2+ months -

unheard of!) and I'm still waiting for my allergies I've had for at

lesast 15 years to kick in as flowers are blooming all around me

(knock on wood- don't want to jinx myself). It's not clear to me if

it's gluten, dairy or both that has helped - my sinuses cleared about

1 1/2 weeks after going gluten and dairy free. I wish there were

more studies w/ folks like us. I'll bet ear, nose and throat doctors

would seriously cut down their patient loads if they asked their

patients to try giving up gluten and dairy for awhile.

BTW I just got back from a biz trip - my first biz trip since going

GF and dairy lite. I was so happy that I was able to find 2 things at

the airport that were safe- (1) fruit cup, (2) chicken caesar salad

(croutons were separately packaged and dressing was GF). I never

realized how much I would appreciate the simple things in life, like

being able to find something to eat in an airport!

Ditto others comments about giving up dairy and gluten and getting rid

of my sinus issues. I had no dairy for 18 months but now can have

some and tolerate it fine. I was positive for casein allergy/

intolerance and even now I don't drink milk, yoghurt, stuff like that

- still use almond/rice products instead, but I do have cheese and am

happy to do that. It also makes it so much easier to eat at other

people's houses. We eat alot at friends' and I know it was always so

difficult for them to cook without dairy and gluten. Now they are

much more comfortable with just skipping the gluten!

An interesting casein fact, if any of you try to reduce casein, that

the smaller the animal, the less casein in it's milk - so buffalo milk

has more than cow, which has more than sheep which has more than goat

which has more than?????!!!!!! :-D

Interesting about the raw dairy. Going off dairy never helped my

sinus problem much but I was eating gluten then. Being strictly GF

for over 2 years hasn't made a big difference yet. I am transitioning

to a raw vegan diet these days so we will see how that is. I am

hoping to shed some weight and have more energy. That would be nice.

Hello all,

Before I new I had CD, when I was still eating gluten, I also had

constant sinus problems. After going gluten free, these problems

cleared up right away, much sooner than other issues.

I also took a lot of antibiotics for the sinus infections and now

wonder if that was a trigger to make the CD worse.

Regards,

Eula

Hi Teri,

Here is another post for you, I am sorry you have a issue about

sinus, I had sinus problem very badly when I was a teenager and I

think it went on for 10 yrs, I just drank plenty of water and blow

my nose to clear it out, I think it was from my sisters pets and

also vaccuming, we just need fresh air to clear our sinus. over

time it just went away and my sinues is recovered, I have tried

over counter medicines and they don't work well.

Hello again Dennis,

I am thinking that the sinus issues are either dry air or allergies or both.

Hard to tell sometimes! Had sinus surgery a few years ago and it helped for a

while. Anyway, I may have mislead you some as far as my hearing is concerned.

I can still hear pretty well. Lost about 30 percent in one ear and about 40 in

the other. But it does not interfere with quality of life. Just say " huh "

sometimes!!

Just a little background of my own, diagnosed with the CMT in December of 06.

I am 38. (ugh). Had problems with weakness in legs with pain, twitching, muscle

spasms, etc. Other small conditions but wont bore you. I knew something was

not right but with having chronic lyme disease I just thought

it was connected somehow. Finally got some answers after almost a year of

complaining to the Doc's.

My nephew and I have the same type of CMT, 1B but his is a lot more sever than

mine. So far my son is not showing signs. Although he has mentioned a few small

signs but he is still deciding whether or not to be tested. He is 19 and I feel

that it may hold him back in life

if he were to test positive. We have had many talks about this. The

decision is his to make. My neurologist is willing to see him and test him.

Ok, got on a little roll there!!

Thanks for everything!!

Teri

<<ears being clogged and being dizzy. What could this be? Could this be CMT

related?>>

If you take a sinus medicine, like Sudafed, does it help? Pressure in the

sinuses can make your ears feel clogged and create dizziness. As a test, you

may want to try the allergy medication, to see what happens. The Neti-Pot might

help too. And keeping hydrated.

Dizziness can definitely be CMT-related. When I'm standing still and close my

eyes, I completely lose all sense of my position, up/down, side to side, and

could easily fall. Literally, don't know which way is up. Need my eyes for the

visual cues for balance and to prevent dizziness. Not sure if the problem is

due to the lack of sensation in the extremities reporting info back to the brain

or a problem with the nerves in the inner ear sensing me location, but

something's not working well anymore.

Not sure about the clogged ear feeling you're experiencing. If it's not allergy

or infection related, it seems possible that it could be CMT-related. Might

want to get a second opinion from an ENT though.

it could be a cyst type thing. I have something in that area myself, it

viberates sometimes when I'm in relaxed breathing mode and sometimes

when I'm falling off to sleep. not sure whats going on there, but

figured it was a pulop/cyst from sinus drainage while exposed.

Thank you for your reply. I am having a hard time finding the right

doctor. I am wondering what have you been diagnosed with? What kind

of tests were performed? What kind of medicine are you currently

taking?

Thank you.
