Guest guest
Thanks for the good news, I just bought my first bag of it yesterday b/4 reading your email...mmmm mint, I’ll have to head back! From: [mailto: ] On Behalf Of vdolcourt Sent: Sunday, March 02, 2008 9:44 PM Subject: [ ] Trader Joe's GF Brownie Mix We picked up a package of Trader Joe's GF brownie mix. It is easy to use and produces decent brownies, which are good but not as good as my wife's killer brownies from scratech. If you don't bake from scratch, ths mix is going to give you a nice fudgie brownie. Check it out if you like brownies, and make sure you add the extra chocolate chips as the package suggests. In this particular case, the chocolate chips were chopped up Trader Joes Chocolate Mint UFOs. Vic-Sunnyvale By the way, the mix is really over-packaged. Save the outer package for a lunch bag. Guest guest
I agree, definitely add the chocolate chips. I didn't and just thought the brownies were ok... I prefer Pamela's or homemade. Now I want to try H's brownies! haha - > > We picked up a package of Trader Joe's GF brownie mix. Guest guest
Vic,Have you (or anyone else) tried Sylvan Farm's brownie mix? I still haven't made them myself but I tried some samples at the Stanford Celiac Conference a few years ago and they were pretty bomb. I have made the Gluten Free Pantry mix (I believe it's called) with mixed results. The first time I think I made a really thin batch from sample packets that turned out nice. Then when I bought the full size package the batter was deeper in the pan and they came out gooey. Mostly I have gotten my brownie fix from Crave brownies at Rainbow Grocery store, but sadly their supply has been so hit or miss in the past year. Now after finally making it over to Mariposa cafe, I am a big fan of their brownies. They have a few types and they are located on Telegraph in N. Oakland, across the street from the Chevron near 55th St. They are in a red-brick, shopping center type building for those who are not familiar. Highly recommended for GF pizza too! Guest guest
Pamela’s are good! Also, the Gluten Free Pantry’s Chocolate Truffle Brownie Mix is, I think, even better. You cannot tell the difference from it and real brownies. I put melted chocolate chips on the top of the brownies. Can also put peppermint extract into the batter and do a chocolate mint flavor. Very tasty! Karie From: [mailto: ] On Behalf Of seamaiden399 Sent: Monday, March 03, 2008 3:03 PM Subject: [ ] Re: Trader Joe's GF Brownie Mix I agree, definitely add the chocolate chips. Guest guest
I recently tried the mix from Namaste and they beat out the other mixes. They were crisp on the outside and moist and chewy in the center. And the best thing is that they keep really well. Even setting out on the counter for a couple of days they kept their texture. They are not as sweet as the other mixes but they were really good. I bought them at a local health food store (Lodi) but I have seen them at Whole Foods (Sacramento). But I Agree with Vic that when made from scratch they can not be better. My daughter likes to make them for me using the recipe in the Better Homes and Gardens Cook Book but substituting one of the Gluten Free all purpose flours mixes. My favorite is the Bob's Red Mill GF All Purpose Baking Mix. Mark
Guest guest
Talking of cookies - I'm not even a big cookie fan but have found some wonderful cookies. They are by GlutenFreeda. They are frozen and ready to bake. I have tried the chocolate mint ones and some friends were here and they thought the were the best cookies they had ever tasted - and they eat wheat!!!!! They have other flavors too - like peanut butter -but I can't stand peanut butter. I found them in Glen Ellen market and Sonoma Market - so don't know where else they may be - but definitely worth looking for. Ruth
