Draeger's in Danville

A new Draeger's just opened in Danville, *within walking distance of

my house*! I am so psyched about this.

Get the Draeger's brand GF Enchiladas and Shepherd's Pie over near the

deli section. The GF aisle was well stocked, and Redbrige was present.

They had something I had never tried before - teff flour tortillas

from La Tortilla Factory - not bad. They have a printed GF foods list

too.

I just realized that they even have the words " gluten-free foods "

printed on their shopping bags. An actual commitment from a grocery

store! Very nice. Highly recommend for anyone in or near the Danville

area.

Bonus points for the butcher that gave me his excellent carne asada

burrito recipe over the counter and then proceeded to dice the steak

up for me, and double bonus points for placing a wine bar in the

center of the store just in case we need a break in the middle of a

tough afternoon buying groceries.

The one in San Mateo certainly is - is it true that the son of the founders' of Draegers is celiac? I've heard this many times but have never checked.

The Draeger family is very committed to gluten-free foods. Three of

the grandchildren of Draeger's founder (the kids of one of the Draeger

" children " who are running the store now) are either celiacs or

diabetics, or both celiac and diabetic. All the stores have GF

sections. Some are marked better than others (San Mateo is the best on

this side of the bay) but all the buyers are receptive to suggestions.

I don't go to Whole Foods as often anymore.

Gosh that's interesting, I've partially gone the other way. I was

committed only to draegers but the Wholefoods just off Hillsdale has so

many more items - and the bread is so good, that I now go to that quite

often - I still love Draegers though.
