Board member, National Foundation for Celiac Awareness http://www.celiaccentral.org/ FUNDRAISING GLUTEN FREE COOKING SPREE sponsored by the National Foundation of Celiac Awareness San Francisco, Saturday, February 2, 2008 (Invitation will follow) Contact for the event will be Maltin (see letter below): Dear San Francisco Bay Area Celiac Community, Mark your calendars and sharpen your knives. The National Foundation of Celiac Awareness (NFCA) invites you to the San Francisco Gluten Free Cooking Spree on February 2, 2008. The Gluten Free Cooking Spree will be the perfect blend of gluten free culinary art, friendly competition and most importantly, delicious gluten free food! There will also be a band, so be sure to shine your dancing shoes! NFCA will pair doctors with top chefs in San Francisco and have them compete to develop and cook the best gluten free meal. Media personalities will assist each team. Guests who attend the event will be able to watch the teams prepare their dishes and taste them! Local restaurants and vendors will provide delicious food, dessert and drinks! Profits from the event will support the NFCA national awareness campaign. A donation will also be made to the hospital affiliated with the winning team's doctor and the local support group will receive funding that is designated for celiac awareness programming. We really hope that you will join us in what promises to be a one-of-a-kind evening to provide critical awareness of gluten free living and Celiac Disease. Together we can help make a difference today and tomorrow in the lives of our children and future generations. Tickets will be available in early January. VIP Admission: $100 General Admission: $50 Kids/Students: $35 More details will come in the next couple of weeks! I look forward to meeting you all on Feb. 2 at the event! Reminder from Jackie Corley Celiac Camp, California - an old-fashioned summer camp for kids restricted to a gluten free diet - will be back next year in 2008 for a full week: Sunday, August 3 through Friday, August 8 at Camp Arroyo in Livermore, California. Registration materials will be available beginning February 1, 2008 at www.celiaccamp.com. Camp is free except for a $25 registration fee per camper. We are currently recruiting volunteer counselors for camp. Read what some of this year's counselors had to say: “ Camp Celiac was by far the best week of my entire life! Witnessing and feeling the connections with the children, as well as with the other counselors and volunteers was beyond describable. I was literally brought to tears. Next year cannot come fast enough! " --, San , CA “Spending a week with people who can relate to you on a whole new level is such a wonderful and refreshing feeling to know that you are not alone. I didn't know anyone my age that has Celiac before camp, and meeting the other counselors was awesome. Everyone has family and friends, but attending camp allows you a week to spend with your Celiac family! " -- , Manhattan Beach , CA “Being a counselor at Camp Celiac goes way beyond the GF Chocolate Chip cookies that are served (which happen to be extraordinary by the way!) It's about being a part of a team that understands the challenges of having to be gluten free and checking those at the door. To be a counselor at Camp Celiac is simply to know the joy of making a child smile, of teaching them a new skill, of watching them learn, of seeing friendships form that will last a lifetime and being part of those friendships. Expect to work hard, expect to have fun and most of all expect to make memories that will last well beyond the summer. " --Lori, Nashua , NH " The kids in my group made the celiac camp better than I imagined it could be. I wish that I could work with each child on an ongoing basis. " --Jeanne, Paso Robles, CA You, too, can have this amazing gluten free experience by volunteering as a camp counselor. Learn more about Camp Celiac, and see photos from this year's camp, at www.celiaccamp.com. If you are interested in volunteering please send an email to campceliac@... with your name, gender, age and a brief statement about why you would like to volunteer. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Local Celiac Contacts: EAST BAY....
