Guest guest
swallowing is not really improving Could it be an irritated thryoid?!?!? Or furious throat muscles at the "intrusion" of the surgery? In addition to the hot/cold soaks and deep tissue oil - what kind of muslce stretching could be done for throat muscles like you would do for a back injury??!?! Massage if it's not tooooo sore? Guest guest
massage is out as it is basically where the incision is. I'm sure all the area is furious (i like that word) Under my jaw to the chin is still basically numb... so I'm sure there is deep trauma in there... My parents were by today.. my mother said.. "Hon, you're 14 days out of surgery, are you expecting miracles? You're really doing good... and you're looking better too..." I love mothers... I told her "YES" I am.... Isn't everyone?? Guess you all can tell by now, I DON"T do sick well....AT ALL. Suzibbarnyard82637@... wrote: swallowing is not really improvingCould it be an irritated thryoid?!?!? Guest guest
Suzi ~ Until all the swelling is gone and you are fully recovered it is hard to say why your swallower ain’t working. My best guess is they bruised your esophagus enough to mess up the peristalsis (wave like contractions) that makes food go down. It is a pain in the patootie, but only time will fix it. The other possibility is that it’s neurological, in which case they won’t be able to tell until you are all healed up again. So I would stock up on some good books and soft foods and try to relax. A weird thing happened to me at school today. My transcription teacher sent me over to the college’s clinic and the doctor hired me to help his current two girls catch up a backlog of work. I wasn’t looking for a job and BAM I got one. I am still in shock really. I made a deal with them to work in exchange for credits and a letter of recommendation for when I look for a permanent position somewhere. On top of that, there were college recruiters on campus today and I got two brochures for degree programs, one of the schools is close by and the other in Alaska *blink blink* I said “how come you are not in Hawaii??” LOL! I won’t know the full results of Alyssa’s autism screening tests until the 20th. From what they have told me it looks like she will be diagnosed with Asperger’s syndrome. I said, whatever, as long as she gets the help she needs. The school fought tooth and nail to prevent her from having her asthma inhaler on school grounds, but I pushed it through. She is doing very well and doesn’t even need the long acting one anymore, only the short acting. To bypass the stupid teacher, we put her in the resource room with a good friend of mine who has known all my kids since they were babies. She will help Alyssa with her homework daily and make sure it gets to her teacher, so no more excuses for her teacher to say “I never received it.” This whole school year my poor little girl has been holding her stuffed puppy dog at recesses and standing all by herself while the other kids ignore her. The teacher never mentioned this to us till this meeting. Well, I am off to bed guys and gals, I am very tired. Guest guest
Hi Joy, I am sorry you are suffering so much with sinus infections. I used to suffer with them a lot - and one thing I started doing that an old doctor suggested was sniffing warm salt water and doing my best to get it up into my sinuses. It does sting a little - but it does work. If you don't like the idea of sniffing warm salt water you can buy an OTC saline nose solution at your local store or pharmacy. Personally I'd rather mix up my own solution and use a teaspoon to sniff out of - because it is cheaper and if I need more salty solution I can make it - if less, I can make it that way too. Today, when my sinuses begin to hurt I mix up the salt water and usually one treatment of the salt water takes care of the problem. Anyway - that's my experience - - my daughter likes the saline spray instead - - so we both have our favorite methods - - she was once a candidate for sinus surgery but since using the saline sprays she no longer has such an issue with her sinuses. Take care and I hope you feel better soon. Rose --------------------------------- Got a little couch potato? Check out fun summer activities for kids. Guest guest
Cassy, I'd give that doctor a call and let him know just what has happened and if you need to insist that he see you again..... You know, it reminds me of the kids when they were little and be sick and I'd take them to the doctor & they would act like they were just fine - until blood work or a throat culture would be done and they'd find out that they were sick... Don't give up hon - just because we don't look sick doesn't mean we aren't sick... But do give him a call... Keep us posted. Rose cnberte <bertelson@...> wrote: Hi all. Guest guest
Thank you Rose for your support. I feel so isolated sometimes that even the docs that are supposed to be helping me leave my hanging. Guest guest
I feel you pain. I was diagnosed 5 years ago, although I had trouble long before that. It took awhile for the doctor to realize that my symptoms were not " all in my head " In fact, I diagnosed myself and finally insisted on a referral to a Rheumatologist. I got very frustrated with that Rheumatologist and I was getting no relief so I thought that I could just tough it out. Big mistake. I have a new (wonderful doctor) now and things are much better. From my 2 years of " toughing it out " the cartilage is now completely gone from my knee and now requires surgery. Hang in there and find another doctor! Believe it or not there are some good ones out there! Brit Hi > all. I was diagnosed with moderate to severe RA 2 years ago. Guest guest
Okay, friends...I need some help here. I have previously visited a site that was recommended to me for gluten free products. Problem is, they have stuff labeled gluten free that obviously isn't. I've emailed the company, but have not had a response. Help? This site was actually recommended by a doctor friend who I'm afraid might be sending his patients here. I'm afraid someone might buy something from Diabetic Direct and not realize things are labeled incorrectly. For an example, check this out. It's labeled gluten free! http://www.diabeticdirect.com/gluten-free-cinnamon-swirl-snackin-3714-prd1.htm Thx, Carla Hill
Guest guest
Piglet95037, I used to be an investigator for the FDA. The allergen labeling should definitely be firmly in place by now. I forwarded your email to my former boss. He is in the Baltimore, MD district but he is a great guy and I know he will forward this to the allergen labeling department. Hopefully, they can figure out where this product is made and an investigator will address this issue with the manufacturer. It seems like a lot of training needs to happen for these people. Unfortunately, when I moved to CA, I wasn't able to keep my job (I live in Monterey and the only FDA office was in San ). I was really looking forward to being a specialist in the labeling/allergen area since I have a gluten sensitivity, myself. Oh well...maybe one day. Anyway, hope this helps. Guest guest
Hi Carla, The site is frightening. Did you try calling them or emailing them? It looks like they are there only monday thru friday but I would be curious to know what they said. I could look into it if you already haven't. It seems as though they are ignorant as to what gluten free means.
