Guest guest
Two other problematic ingredients are oyster sauce (almost always contains gluten) and fish sauce (contains gluten half of the time, at least in those imported to the US from various countries. Traditional Thai fish sauce MAY not contain wheat, but it's hard to know, and it will be hard to check the labels.) I don't know how helpful my experience will be, because I've just eaten Thai food in restaurants in the states, but the red, green, and yellow curries often seem to be safe. Have a great trip! - > > > Any advise for travelling 10 days in Thailand? I'm > thinking I can bring the GF cards translated into > Thai. Guest guest
FYI, I also thought curries were safe until I actually asked at a Thai restaurant (Grand Pu Bah in SF) a couple of weeks ago (after being told that everything else on the menu had soy sauce), and they said, no, at that restaurant, they marinate the meats in a sauce containing soy sauce before they put it into the curries...! I'm not sure how common that practice is, but it was pretty disappointing!----- Original Message ----I don't know how helpful my experience will be, because I've just eaten Thai food in restaurants in the states, but the red, green, and yellow curries often seem to be safe. __________________________________________________
Guest guest
I don't eat meat.. so I always order the vegetarian curries, and they are generally ok... The veggies and tofu tend to be plain. But you're right, it's always best to ask. I went to a vietnamese restaurant where they marinated everything, including the raw fish, in (wheat based) fish sauce. - > > FYI, I also thought curries were safe until I actually asked at a Thai restaurant (Grand Pu Bah in SF) a couple of weeks ago (after being told that everything else on the menu had soy sauce), and they said, no, at that restaurant, they marinate the meats in a sauce containing soy sauce before they put it into the curries...!
