Guest guest
Maia, I have had these same exact symptoms my entire life! I basically had a chronic sinus infection for my entire childhood. The dark circles under my eyes were pretty constant -- they got better when I let my mother's house at 18 (I was allergic to her cats) and stopped eating wheat and dairy. Now I eat some dairy (but not a lot), take allergy meds if I know I'll be around a cat, and (obviously) stay away from wheat. It's gotten better -- now I only occasionally have sinus infections. The other thing that has helped a lot is getting acupuncture on the sinus point. (Acupressure/self-massage works too -- it's just a little bit above your nostrils on your cheeks. You'll know when you've hit it.) That does amazing things to clear out my sinuses. Does anyone know if there's been any medical research showing a correlation between CD and sinus problems? Or is more of a general correlation between auto-immune diseases and sinus problems? I can't ever remember being able to fully breathe from both nostrils at the same time. I think in hindsight my cd triggered before 5 or 6 but I wasn't diagnosed until 50. How about dark under eye circles? I have had them since childhood too. Anyone else? Maia
Guest guest
I have recently started using a Xylitol nose spray (XClear is the one I use; I checked and it is GF, although they probably all are). It seems to help me ward off colds if I use it early on, and it helps if I am stuffy. My son has had constant sinus problems (never quite an infection); this has always been part of his reaction to gluten (both boys have the stuffy-nose-turning-to-cold response to gluten), but I think he has other allergies to things we can’t control that cause ongoing sinus irritation that I haven’t been able to solve. We just started using it recently, and he hasn’t used it enough to tell if it’s working yet for him. Right now I'm actually on my second round of antibiotics (Biaxin) in two months for a sinus infection. I hate to take them, but I can't seem to get this infection to go away -- the neti pot, etc. helps, but hasn't been enough. (I take a ton of probiotics every day year round to counteract the antibiotics.) Speaking of which: How many people out there suffer from sinus problems? I was almost constantly congested when I was in the throes of celiac disease. It's much more manageable now that I'm on a gf diet, but, still, I have problems. My ear nose and throat doc has recommended sinus surgery. I do have several structural problems. L² Never miss a thing. Make your homepage.
