Pam APRIL MEETING IN SANTA CRUZ: BEA GARTH PRESENTS "HERBAL HEALING FOR CELIACS" The next meeting of the Santa Cruz Celiac Support Group will be on Saturday, April 5, 2008 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in meeting room 1 at Dominican Hospital. At this meeting Bea Garth, celiac, poet, and artist, will talk about her lifelong quest for health using diet and herbs. As the daughter of two anthropologists, she also has an interest in the roots of celiac disease and will discuss its historical and cultural origins. In the early ‘70’s Bea’s health, fragile since infancy, began to deteriorate rapidly. With some timely advice from her grandmother, Bea turned her health around through avoidance of allergens. Soon she found the use of herbal remedies and vitamins to be extremely helpful. Bea's battle for good health is largely won; she now feels an overall energetic youthfulness (unless she is inadvertently "glutened" from cross contamination). Along the way Bea has helped many others with their health issues; she is currently writing a book about herbal approaches that make living with celiac disease easier. The meeting will conclude with a gluten-free potluck lunch (please bring a list of ingredients or the recipe; the potluck is optional for those new to the diet or too sick to cook) and plenty of time for questions and answers.
