Here's Pam's directions to the Celiac Support Group meeting April 5th, 11 AM to 1 PM at the Dominican Hospital, 1555 Soquel Drive, Santa Cruz, CA. I will be presenting a half hour talk on How Herbs Can Make Living With Celiac Easier. There will be Q & A after plus lunch. Its a potluck--so bring something if you can!--Bea GarthFrom north of Santa Cruz: Take highway 1 south to the Soquel Avenue exit (it is the next exit after sey); at the end of the exit ramp you will come to a traffic signal; turn right at the signal onto Soquel Avenue. You will go a very short distance on Soquel

Avenue (less than a 10th of a mile) and then come to another signal; turn right onto Soquel Drive. Soquel Drive takes you over the freeway; pass the first signal, then turn left into the first driveway you see for Dominican Hospital and park in the visitor’s parking lot in front of the hospital. After you have parked: To the right of the hospital's main entrance you will see a door labeled Outpatient Entrance. Go in that door and turn to the right; there will be an elevator on your right. Go down one floor (that's the only place it goes), get out and turn to the left, in front of you will be another hall, turn left down that hall and you will see the door to conference room 1 right in front of you. I usually

arrive early and put up directional signs. If all else fails, ask at the information desk for directions to Conference Room 1. Note that occasionally the location is changed, so be alert to that information in the announcement. The address is 1555 Soquel Drive, Santa Cruz. The general information phone number is 462-7700. Pam APRIL MEETING IN SANTA CRUZ: BEA GARTH PRESENTS "HERBAL HEALING FOR CELIACS" The next meeting of the Santa Cruz Celiac Support Group will be on Saturday, April 5, 2008 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in meeting room 1 at Dominican Hospital. At this meeting Bea Garth, celiac, poet, and artist, will talk about her lifelong quest for health using diet and herbs. As the daughter of two anthropologists, she also has an interest in the roots of celiac disease and will discuss its historical and cultural origins. In the early ‘70’s Bea’s health, fragile since infancy, began to deteriorate rapidly. With some timely advice from her grandmother, Bea turned her health around through avoidance of

allergens. Soon she found the use of herbal remedies and vitamins to be extremely helpful. Bea's battle for good health is largely won; she now feels an overall energetic youthfulness (unless she is inadvertently "glutened" from cross contamination). Along the way Bea has helped many others with their health issues; she is currently writing a book about herbal approaches that make living with celiac disease easier. The meeting will conclude with a gluten-free potluck lunch (please bring a list of ingredients or the recipe; the potluck is optional for those new to the diet or too sick to cook) and plenty of time for questions and answers.
